Buying from Samsung charges tax on the full price of the device. Picking up from BB B&M only charged tax on the $250. YMMV but worth a try.

No free memory upgrade to 512gb. With regular offer at 512GB free upgrade, it is $427 with education discount comparing to $449, hence not good deal for 512GB version. But good deal for 256GB.

The biggest upgrade is the 8gen2. I own both s22u and s23u, the s22u is constantly a hot potato while s23u is at most warm under heavy load. Other than the processor, the battery life is a huge improvement. At $200 difference probally it makes sense to upgrade but not over that.

They ship you your new phone with packing material. Some soft sheeting and a lot of cardboard that is long, shredded like a pair of 80s jeans, rolled up on the new phone. A fedex return label will be inside. You will need to tape it to the outside of the box, on top of the original label (or remove the original label and apply new one).


Get your new phone up and running first. Look for any issues for a week.


Do a factory reset on your old phone. take a picture of the screen with your new phone to show no issues of front and back while on. In case Samsung employee tries to pull a fast one on you.


Turn your old phone off and wrap it up. You can dop off at any Fedex drop off location or find a Dollar General store. They will scan the package and send a receipt notice via text to your phone. Samsung will receive a couple business days later and let you know they receive. Few more days until they get a chance to review and ok the trade-in.

The only downside to that is that you are downgrading your RAM from 12GB to 8GB. Makes it hard for me to go to the 256GB S23 from my 256GB S22U.

I'm just waiting for the S24U at this point. Heard it will have a flat screen, which is something I really want. Curved screens are just stupid IMO. I still got the S22U as I wanted the best cameras, but I also have a base S22 and I like it's flat screen so much more than the curved one on my S22U.

I'm getting close to that point as well. The only part about waiting and eventually trading in a 22 on a 24 is that, based on past and current trade in promos, a trade in of a 22 to 24 will be about $250 less than a trade in of 23 to 24. It's like either pay now or pay later. In general, I always see a 1 year old phone is about $250 more (trade in and actual value) than a 2 year old phone. My target out of pocket upgrade price has always been $250. In years past, Samsung has always allowed me to upgrade for less....sometimes a lot less thanks to them tossing in watches or ear buds.

The only thing your post misses is that the years not over. The best deals on s23 will be between BF and Jan 24. Only thing is that you will be upgrading right before the s24 released. And then holding onto it until Nov 2024 , right before the s25 is released. Rinse, repeat.

Good point.👍 I just wouldn't mind having a new toy now to play with..lol..butbfrom the sounds of it, nothing new with a s23u.

My issue is I have a pile of reward points from Samsung that are piling up every month from a special program I'm in .. upto $1k in points..but at end of the months , $70 worth expire...unless I start using them. And I'm not a watch person and don't need new ear buds.

If you go to the Samsung site in mobile browser you should see a banner for the 25 off 250. Click it to go to the app and have it automatically applied. The 15 comes up when you add some item. I just added the cheapest case to get to 250.

I needed the phone yesterday so went with Best Buy B&M pick up and got charged tax on the $250:
