It's a slimline or laptop-style drive, which aren't as fast as full-size desktop optical drives.

On the other hand, I've had reliable brand usb flash drives error and even disappear files. That drove me nuts.
I bought a Samsung external DVD writer a few years and I have been using the Nero package that came with it. The software allows me to clone or backup on dvd or hard drive.
I would get this deal except I already have one from the previous deal.

Most probably not.
This unit has only USB output. Most modern TVs have HDMI input for video. Most Smart TVs can also read still pictures out of USB drives, but they lack the decoder needed to view movies from a digital bitstream (as what'd come out of this drive).
If you need to connect this as a DVD player to your TV, and the TV does not have the necessary decoder feature, then your option, other than using your computer in the middle, is to try and use a streamer box that accepts bitstreams via USB, and has an HDMI output. IF the TV is very old, and predates HDMI, you'll need a streamer with a composite or components analog video outputs.
In any case, dedicated DVD players are very cheap, especially if you shop your local used market (Craigslist, for example).
Ripping music from CD's they own into FLAC.
But yeah, hard to find, not even on the product page, just in the manual.
