I've been playing FE since GBA/gamecube era and this is the first game I still didn't own yet(I may eventually buy it with a big sale. FF16 is coming I know I won't have time for this for a long while, maybe hold it til BF)
it remains to be seen if the expansion pass is worth it, but as of right now, i'd probably say no
If you want a controller that's more like a traditional controller, well it all depends on your budget. Nintendo's own Pro Controller is $70 and is great but a bit overpriced IMO.
The Cadillac of Switch Controllers would be the 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth controller. It's currently "on sale" on Amazon for $64.40.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B9BDMWWN. The only thing missing is Amiibo support. In fact, all third party controllers lack Amiibo support. This is a non-issue to me as Amiibo aren't a big deal.

Going down a bit and the cheapest option I'd personally recommend would be either the PDP or PowerA wired options. They often go for as little as $12 and both are part of this Woot Deal for $15 each.
