Damn dude is it really that hard to say no?
say no to " free complimentary maintainance check"? they don't give a crap. their policy is to make you wait minimum 3 hours and sell you repairs and replacements. they still make you wait 5 hours for an oil change and after waiting for and sleeping in the lobby chair for about 4 hour, the dealer service guy whispers to your ear and says your car has this or that wrong and need $20000 repair but his manager has approved 10% discount and now your repair/replacement cost is $19000. etc. even if your car is brand new at 4000 miles, if they think or you sound gullible for them, they will lie and say you need brand new engine and brakes and transmissions for $9000.

Dude, you have obviously never been to a Valvoline. You don't even get out of your car. It's a drive through oil change place.

Just tell the tech you don't have time for him to inspect anything, you just want an oil change and you do your own inspections or already have a mechanic who handles your maintenance.

I wasn't saying these about Valvoline oil change shops. I was saying what happens at dealer service shops. I asked if Valvoline does similar thing like" free check" to scam like the dealer. I have never been to Valvoline. do you make appointment or just go there? Do you have to wait long in your car ?

Walmart has this option. I believe they charge $19.99 if you bring your own oil.
Wow, news to me! Can't believe I didn't think about Walmart as being willing to use their own oil. I'll have to try that next time

Convenience, 100%

In most places you can't just roll up to a dealership and get service on demand. For VIOC, pull off the road and pick one. 15-20 mins later you are back on the road. (in most cases)
This is exactly why you should avoid these places (and do it yourself)

Doing it yourself is not convenient most drivers.

The average driver couldn't tell you where the lug nuts are let alone how to access and remove an oil filter. Plus you must already be invested for a few hundred dollars worth of a jack, jackstands, oil filter wrench (model dependent), oil plug wrench or ratchet and an impact gun- battery or pneumatic.

$70 for steel car ramps (holds up to 8,000 pounds at HF), $10 for oil filter wrench + $10 for oil drain pan = $90+tax initial investment assuming you already have ratchet and socket or correct size wrench.

Cost at local valvoline shop for full synthetic oil change+ standard filter = $101.99-$25 = $76.99+tax.

Cost of full synthetic oil change on own = $23.99 for 5qt full synthetic + $10 oil filter = $33.99

You are saving $33.00 each oil change you do yourself. With ~3x oil change, you make back your initial investment. Plus, if you have a small engine, it may only take 4qt so you get to keep 1qt in the trunk for maintaining oil level.

There are a few caveats in which I would recommend to not do the oil change yourself:
1) You live in an apartment that prohibits parking lot repairs (but you probably have a friend's house you can go to)
2) You don't like getting oil/grease/dirt on yourself (despite most precautions, you will probably get a bit dirty)
3) In the case you have a led foot (if you are using ramps, you do not want to drive over the top of them)
4) If it's winter and freezing out, it may be more convenient to bring it to a shop

Nonetheless, I would recommend going to an instant oil change shop every few oil changes for one specific reason - the temperature of the oil when it's removed.

When you go to an instant oil shop, you have the luxury of driving a good amount beforehand to make sure the oil gets piping hot. This way, a higher volume of crud is released when the drain plug is removed. I'm sure you wouldn't want to change your own oil when it's piping hot - the shops are used to this.

this doesn't say how much the oil change is after the coupon. for example only says$25 off full synthetic or blend. I guess a trick to get you there to rip you off.
do they also do the "free complimentary maintenance check" scam like al the dealer shops?
you know they throw in this free checks with oil change to lie to you about thousands in repair you need?
I used to work at Valvoline. We had a certain dollar amount we were supposed to get out of each customer. One of my co-workers got written up for not having a high enough sales average. I am soo glad I left there.

What are you using an impact wrench for on an oil change???
