Better option for inverter home backup if you need 240 volts or have shared neutral wires and need more than 15/20 amps of 120 volt on both legs of the panel (bridging the panel hots can possibly overload the shared neutral)
Remote control is not as convenient as it may seem. All loads must be disconnected before shutting down or restarting to prevent damage to the generator and the equipment. The automatic electric chokes get stuck. I have remote start and have never once used it. Electric start makes the generator heavier. The batteries are expensive to replace and require maintenance. You won't see either on a contractor's generator under 6,000 watts. A toddler can pull start these 200 cc inverters.
As noted by others in this thread Chinese inverter generators have light duty inverter sections which fail. Have backups or have the 240 V as a conventional which is just large enough for your needs.
When comparing fuel consumption ensure that the gph and the % load are the same and within your anticipated load range. A spec at 25% load can look great but at 50 ot 70% the same generator can be a gas hog.
For me, definitely yes. Dual fuel is most certainly worth it.
When a hurricane comes through we can be without power for a
week or two and sometimes only have access to propane.
They can still fill propane tanks but our only gas station for 30 or 40 miles is
shut down.
STRENGTHS:
In the expected price range
Several accessories included
RV Ready
Parallel capable
Inverter
Fuel efficient
AVERAGE SPECS:
Decent weight (95 lbs)
Acceptable noise (61 dBA)
Decent run time
WEAKNESSES:
No electric start
Even then it's only useful as long as you have fuel. Maybe a better investment to buy a solar generator like a Jackery or EcoFlow if apocalypse is your purpose.
