Kenmore just rebrand from other manufacturers. You have to look at the model number prefix to find out who's the actual maker. this one is made by Daewoo. tons of bad reviews on Amzn. I would avoid.

It's amazing that in the past 30 years we have managed to make fridges worse than we did 50 years ago.

You should go to Sears and buy a Kenmore and maybe some Craftsman tools.
It's funny that Sears seems to sell just about every brand of refrigerator except for Kenmore [sears.com] now.

Honestly, They could keep the efficiency high and use higher quality parts but the manufacturer's are squeezing out every penny they can. One of the old sayings is something along the lines of: Any idiot can build a bridge that lasts, only an engineer can make bridge to barely last.

If they wanted to engineer where we didn't need to replace it every 5-10 years, they easily could. Please don't blame this on efficiency as we should expect things higher efficiency as our lives progress. Our government isn't perfect, but these companies definitely try to blame every problem they give us on them
I've never heard that saying about building a bridge, but I love it! Designing something to be adequate while not wastefully overbuilding it is a key tenet of engineering. It's a funny saying because it's true.

Some old bridges are still standing and in use today because they were overbuilt. They were overbuilt simply because modern engineering techniques hadn't been developed, and it was better to be safe by a wide margin than to be sorry. Unfortunately, those bridges cost a fortune to build and some still had hidden design flaws that resulted in their untimely demise. It's a treat to see an old overbuilt bridge still in use today, but there are sound reasons they don't build them like that anymore.

Dang, out of stock in my zip. I wanted to get a new double door frech fridge. Maybe next time.

I feel sorry for the delivery guys when they have to deliver these big ass units up stairs. The Costco delivery guys tell me they do 20 deliveries a day. Be nice to the Costco delivery guys, if you don't wanna tip them, at least give them a bottle of water.
Normally doors and drawers can come off so may be 4 pieces and empty aren't that heavy, filled with gas not solid thick metal. It does seem unwieldy though for sure

Gotcha thanks i just got a house and moving in within a month. We can take this to DM too if you want but wondering Costco would be best bet for warranties? Speaking of which would you recommend getting one? Any particular models you recommend?

We're not too picky on it except wanting a water and ice dispenser. Didn't want to drop 2k...but if we need to then we can figure something out. Would prefer to spend half if possible. Thanks will rep
Most ice dispensers, aren't good. Ice makers in the freezer are less likely to break.

Exactly. Making compressors and pieces that last a lot longer wouldn't be exponential in cost. But any corner they can cut is better for them so they can receive their bonuses as they will definitely sell more units.

I was offfered a free refridgerator last year.
It was part of an energy savings program.
The person who had the form said that my 20 year old fridge will outlive most replacements.
the only issue is parts.
It's a GE profile.
I kept my old one.

I had multiple issues with LG fridge...every repairman said to stick Whirlpool or GE for appliances and to avoid Samsung and LG (although I loved my Bosch dishwasher). I am also still rolling with my 2007 Whirlpool Washer/Dryer...

True, but none of those refrigerators from 50 years ago (some of which may still be running) have an "Energy Star" label on them.

And don't dwell too long on how much energy it takes to manufacture a refrigerator every 6 years or so.

Yes, it's true. LG kicks but in some things like TV's, but not refrigerators. Some of the repairs folks on YouTube have said the same thing. Class-action lawsuits over LG compressors and Samsung icemakers. The worst of all is Samsung fridges and washers though.
I have an LG since over 5 years. Never had any issue and runs quite. If you can avoid water dispenser and ice machine, you shouldn't have any bigger issues with any of the main brands fridges. That's what the typical weakness spots are…

Not really. If you think about it, we've just gotten to a point where they've "engineered" stuff to the point where it's just scraping by by meeting the bare minimum requirements (whereas in the past everything was over engineered).
I think a lot of it too is the energy efficiency stuff because in order to get the best energy efficiency you have to use the smallest motors pumps etc so good or bad part design you push everything to its limits trying to achieve that energy efficiency.

Mine was just delivered yesterday, black stainless. Works perfectly. Extended warranty purchased for $89 for 3yrs additional. Older reviews seem hit or miss but more recent 1yr+ reviews look great. Took the gamble.

Typical Costco interaction:
"What a deal!!! Let me look a little closer…Oh this is just absolute garbage no other store would bother to try and sell."
