The 140W rating is indeed derived from the 5A current rating (presumably this cable has the electronic marker required to signal high current support) in combination with the 28V standard in USB Extended Power Range (EPR). Perhaps the most easily identified device associated with this standard rating would be the 16" Macbook Pro [theverge.com].... and even that device only supports this charging mode with the USB-C to MagSafe cable(!).

At the same time, a cable with 5A current support is also critical for high-current Programmable Power Supply charging modes like 45W Samsung Super Fast Charging 2.0

Good luck!

Anker 737 paired with Anker 717 can utilize the 140W. Also my friend has a HP Omen gaming laptop. Testing it on GTA V max settings it pulled the 140W the 737 was capable of outputting through this cable. But realistically most laptops won't need this much since they usually top out at 100W.

Right now which device actually can do 140W charging?

Can this cable work with device that use proprietary charging protocol? Or those proprietary charging protocol (like Dell laptops) need their special charger and cable and likely won't work with this?

Note that this cable would not help with even the MacBook Pro and its charger, as its USB C ports are limited to 100W. It needs its MagSafe cable to fully utilize 140W, but future models may have USBC ports that can reach that speed.

Good catch! I'll add an asterisk to my comment, since as you noted the MacBook Pro does support Extended Power Range charging at 28V up to 140W but only when using the USB-C to MagSafe cable. It's a great example to cite when talking about EPR and/or chargers, but probably a terrible example when talking about third party USB-C cables.

Good luck!

What data speeds can it handle? If it can handle data at all. Edit: Nevermind, saw the product title says USB 2.0

Over here wishing my Thinkpad P1 G2 230w charger would utilize USB-C charging - for van life purposes. Going through an inverter and dealing with that huge brick is annoying.
