It has 2 2.5G ports as well as upgraded CPU 2ghz

I highly recommend reading the RT-AX88U Pro review by DongKnows as it does compare it pretty well to the standard version. It has more of some ports, less of others.

Pro includes VLAN and a faster CPU but there are a few other small things as well (AI Mesh 2)

how is the range on this compared to the ac68u? currently have 2 ac68u setup in aimesh about 40ft apart to get better range on the 5ghz band, hoping to be able to consolidate to 1 router with an upgrade

Dongknows review has performance data from 10ft as well as 40ft away from router. Check if that works for you or not.

The GT-AX6000 is $20 cheaper on Amazon right now and from dongknows, they are essentially the same except for aesthetics.

I have been researching routers to upgrade mine, and this Pro model is THE one to get if you have just one of these needs:

Large home, over 2,000 sq ft
Gaming over Wifi
More than 30 devices connected
Want to use VPN

I have all 4 of these needs, thus the need for all the horsepower of the Pro. I have over 80 devices on my network and 5,000 sq ft home.

My only minor complaint is the loss of 3 LAN ports on the Pro model. I have seen these sell for 180-200 used and 249 new. Holding out for a sale somewhere in the middle, maybe an open box
