All the people complaining about the display being glossy, I can assume have literally zero knowledge about laptops. It's an OLED display, they are going to be glossy whether it be a $550 or $1500 laptop. That's the whole point of OLED displays, they're supposed to make the colors pop and look vibrant, matte displays are never going to give you that and no matter how good and accurate the color coverage is, they're still going to look washed out as compared to OLEDs.

If you don't want glossy displays then why in the world are you even looking at a laptop with an OLED display.
I got one of these last week from bestbuy.com. I knew it would eventually go on sale but it's a new item and I assumed that wouldn't happen until Black Friday at the best. I'm very glad bestbuy has a price match policy and I just got refunded $200 plus tax.

Anyway, it's a fantastic laptop and if you read the bestbuy reviews you'll see many say it was a steal at $1000 so it's now one of the best deals out there for $800.

I previously bought a 15.6 Asus VivoBook OLED from Walmart and returned it due to heat/fan noise issues. It had an i7-12700H CPU so I was worried about the i7-13700H on this one. But this is much cooler and quieter than the VivoBook was. The fan does run some if the laptop is on my chest, but it's very quiet in standard mode and you can set it for whisper mode to make it near silent with normal use. The CPU is super fast, one of the fastest out there in a laptop. This is not a game machine but I read the new Intel built-in GPU (Iris Xe) is much better than in the past and while it may not yet match a Ryzen, it's getting closer.

The screen is gorgeous and while I like matte, this glossy screen is sharp and no problem for me. I think its about 500 nits, is plenty bright, hi-res makes it easy to read text, and colors just jump out with the OLED. The speakers (set at "dynamic") are amazing for a laptop this size. They not only sound great, but can get super loud as well. Best speakers I've had in a laptop though I hear a Macbook is even better (but never had one). But it's still a laptop so don't expect miracles.

Ports are just OK since there is just one USB A port and while there are two USB C Thunderbolt ports, one is used up if you use external power. There is no SD card port. The HDMI port is version 2.1 which is good for external 4K video. The memory is soldered in and can't be expanded though you can replace the m.2 SSD if you wish to upgrade (it is Gen 4).

The touchpad can light up as a number pad which looks great, but I think is still a bit of a gimmick unless you practice using it.

I love the simple look of it and the all metal case is icing on the cake!

Interesting. I wonder how this compares to the HP Spectre I picked up that also has a 13700H. 16" vs 14.5", but similar specs. I like having the 13th gen i7, but in a more portable package sounds appealing. But this is $33 more for the OLED open box excellent. If this wasn't a touchscreen and had an anti glare screen I'd go for it and return the Spectre.

went with open box for $710. Thinking about using the thunderbolt port for eGPU when at home. Thanks OP!

I look at glossy and matte screens in store. I can't stand the glare. I already have one old glossy dell. Hate it. I wish for a fast matte screen.

It's a shame that most of these mid-high end laptops now have touchscreens which are always glossy.

I am not sure how reliable the site is, but found this: https://www.tech-critter.com/revi...ed-ux3404/

The Core i7-13700H processor is a powerful piece of technology that can handle a lot of demanding tasks. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and in this case, that responsibility is managing the heat generated by the processor. To that end, the laptop we're discussing has two heatsinks and two vents to help dissipate the heat. But when the fan speeds ramp up, the noise level can become unbearable, akin to a tornado. Despite these efforts, temperatures still reach above 80°C, which is quite high.
Probably wont matter if you are using an egpu.

Don't understand how 12th gen laptops are retaining any value when current gen is dropping in price so fast.

Quibble all you want, but spec like this just 2 years ago (unrelated to pandemic) would have been min $1500.

Not just Asus, but across most models.

Even at $999 this seemed cheap. At $799 it is a steal. Gives me buyers remorse for the OLED XPS 9320 I bought a few months back. 14.5" screen is the perfect sweet spot between 13.4 & 16.

I may still pull the trigger and see if I can sell the Dell. One worry is the thermals and throttling - there are not enough reviews out there. Anyone has a view on that?

Also I agree with a few other posters, glossy screen is absolutely a pain in the neck...

Seems like a good machine. Would pick up at this price if I hadn't already bought a macbook air.

youtube link I posted above indicates no throttling and minimal heat issues for an intel processor.
