Thanks OP, grabbed a few. These are great for diy projects and kids stuff. Even if you dont like the whole tv back-lighting, these are great for lighting up the painful A/V cabinets or any place you have to fumble with cables in the dark.

I'll be interested to try it on a TV. I've been wanting to but haven't wanted to spend the money.
Are these things prone to catching on fire are they high quality and UL listed even though they use low voltage
Ive used some pretty cheap RGB strip lights, sometimes the RGB LEDs are over driven to the point of getting warm and discoloring the rubber material they are encased in. Ive never experienced any get hot enough to cause concerns about a fire. There are units at Home Depot that are UL or ETL listed. I've got a few of those sets and they run extremely cool even at max brightness.
If you cut them how do you connect together or to power?
They make led connector kits you can use to do this. However, with the low power of the 5v USB power supply, it might not power much beyond the included 6.5 ft strip.
