I have this drill press and love it. The only negative is the height adjuster crank location blocks using a larger table. I bought a larger table from Rockler and had to McGuyver an extension to the crank. I think this will block the URL but search "Wen drill press extension" on Instructables.

I just bought this to replace my ryobi. It's so loud, and it's unhealthy sounding loud. Rattle, wobble, and rubbing sounds. The speed adjust seemed like an upgrade vs moving the belt, but it's so stiff and so slow to move that I'd prefer moving a belt. You really have to jam it to get it close to the upper and lower rpm. The speed adjust is probably what makes the sound so loud, it's louder as the speed changes. And to add to it all, the included chuck was so loose that any lateral force deflected the bit a lot, like a 1/16". There was also 0.020" of runout, so I'd need to replace the chuck. Instead I returned it. Sadly there's no real alternative with the same features at anywhere near this price point.

Yeah, so like ~25% off. Not amazing, decent if you need one now or are particular to this model.

The bundle price you mention is only low bc that exact drill is part of the bundle. When it goes back up the bundle will go up the same amount as well

PSA to check your craigslist and FB marketplace for used drill presses. Lots of good Taiwan and Craftsman presses floating around for 60-600 bucks all of which are better than even the upper end DPs sold today. May take a bit of patience if you're looking for one with minimal TLC required, but they will come up every few days to weeks depending on your area.

Reeves drives are very noisy, have poor durability, and don't have adequately slow speeds.
But if you believe a 5a motor is 0.75hp, then this is the DP for you.

Hehe great point. My 1/2hp DP from 1978 Taiwan is rated at 7.6A 115V. My dad's 1/3hp 1949 USA Craftsman is 6.4A 115V. Why is it even legal to call this thing 3/4hp? Are the horses newborns?

Same - got one back in 2017 for $145 when Walmart & Amazon's automatic "price match & beat" war was going on. No regrets. I don't use it a ton, but it hasn't let me down yet.

I have the 10" Wen DP and would not buy this brand of DP again. Get what you pay for. The table positioning is really the cheapest design, janky to use. Drill lowering is also very coarse.

Yeah that was a blast. I just missed a the drill press deal back then. I was checking the price in camel and the week before there was an ungodly dip and it was because of the price drop war.

The old cast iron ones can be pretty great. Walker-Turner (non-Driver line) and Rockwell are particularly good targets for this. I paid $90 on CL for a Walker-Turner from a couple years after the company was founded. I cleaned it up and made minimal adjustments, and it works like a dream, plus it's a work of art.

Another excellent drill press option is a used shopsmith. The dp mode is probably its absolutely best feature.

Disclaimer: I'm a sucker for solid vintage tools, especially types that haven't been disrupted by significantly improved designs, and drill presses and radial arm saws are excellent examples of this. Obviously handheld cordless tools are a completely different story.

With most tools there's usually low-end crap, a reliable middle-tier, and then Festool-tier. But with drill presses it seems like it's all low-end crap and Festool-tier. Like why doesn't Dewalt or Milwaukee make drill presses like these?
