I'd buy this if I needed one. At 85 pounds, it's got a serious amount of cast iron and steel for rigidity. I wish more manufacturers would move to the variable speed motor with digital readout. It's cumbersome to constantly move thick rubber bands on the old machines. The design here is really well done, especially the table. The work piece extension is genius unless you buy their separate table or build your own. I really like that the table bevels as well. That's way easier than building a jig to hold your workpiece at an angle. I wouldn't rely on the laser but it's a nice touch.

I have their 10" bandsaw and combo belt/disc sander and happy with both. I'm building small boxes, pinewood derby cars and Christmas decorations. Wen isn't high-end stuff like Laguna, Powermatic or Grizzly, so please don't compare them.

Don't overbuy, I have the 10" and it's a big machine that takes up a lot of space for drilling holes.

I have their 10" drill press and is happy with it. Precision was my biggest concern but everything was accurate. Drill bit was perfectly 90 degrees. Table is solid and didn't budge. I have no complaints.

I bought this several years ago when Walmart and Amazon had the big Wen price war (SD vets will remember). It's been great. The bit was square to the table when it arrived. I just checked it recently and the bit still is. I've noticed no runout but I'm just a woodworker so my tolerances are different than metal workers. I've managed to bog down the motor but only when using very large bits and obviously pushing too hard. The laser is accurate enough. The light is anemic but these lights generally are. I bought a pair of sewing machine, magnetic, adjustable lights and mounted them on either side and the light is perfect. I built a mobile base for it with storage underneath and even in my very cramped garage, I wouldn't do without it. Has been one of my best woodworking purchases and with today's prices, I would do it again.

Good comment, but also worth mentioning that the 12" has an additional 5/8" of spindle travel compared to the 10" machine. For me, that's what makes it worth it.

i have this one. It drilled holes in a large block of aluminum to make a purge plate very easy. I reamed through holes on my wilwood brakes to get bolts to fit my set up. worth it for the price. machine shop was going to charge me over 300 on the purge plate alone

Say you have a large piece of material you'd like to drill several holes into, like a pegboard or a tabletop.

It doesn't look like the foot of the drill has an opening for you to just place it over the middle of a tabletop, so this is only good for the edges of your material, or strips, right?

What would you use instead of a drill press to do a task like that?
