Any real differences in 400 vs 300?

How would these do in a high smoke environment? A bar where smoking is still allowed.
No, you need industrial hvac for that.

3 people smoking in a normal sized bar will raise aqi past 600,
5 people 1200
20 people 5000+

source: beijing environmental protection and monitoring agency.

If you are around smokers, you're basically smoking. EEK!

This is why even in China, the country with the largest smoking population in the world, they banned smoking in public buildings.

I presume the 1256 sq ft claim is basically nonsense.

What is the actual CADR metric rating of this thing?

I can't find the CADR ratings but one Amazon review/asnwer says the CADR for this thing is a mere 350... which means this thing has the same CAR rating/air cleaning abilities as a $120 Winix 5500-2 air purifier that is 1/3 the price.
You can basically compare the wattage of the motor to tell how much output it has.

Can't beat physics.

This lists 56 watts, that winix lists 70 i think. The output is going to be about the same.

I dont' think the winix outputs sustained 70watt, it's probably ~50 watt sustained.

I don't think this is a "great" deal. But it might have better build quality.

Just owned a cat (3 days ago) and I already have this one for my bigger areas which has been very good. Thinking of getting another one because of my cat but Im not sure if I should get better one.

Will this do good with pets?

We have several filters throughout the house (including a 400S) and it makes a huge difference in dander/smell/hair particles in the air. If you can afford a second, I'd highly recommend.

Presumably the area coverage. Also the diff between base and S version is Wi-Fi / app capability. I really like the S because I run my 400S on full blast every early morning to cycle the air before everyone gets up. Nice peace of mind to start the day fresh without the insanely loud noise of it on level 3.

I'd recommend the 400 series instead (which also goes on sales often enough) - I attempted to buy one of these (300) twice, but each had a fan that made too much noise for a bedroom (as if off balance or hitting something) - Our friends had the 400 series and they never seemed to have this noise issue. Sure enough, we eventually bought a 400 series instead and it was quiet.

I wanted to buy one of these for my living room with vaulted ceilings but wasn't sure if it was better than purchasing two mighty or winix like recommended here: https://www.consumeranalysis.com/...-purifier/

Anyone have any input on if this is true that this unit isn't good for large spaces and you really should get two smaller ones?

Anyone else have feedback on the 300 vs the 400? I was about to pull the trigger on the 300 then I saw this post. Grrrrr

I was comparing these too. One note is that the 400 seems to be pretty massive in size. If you're putting it in a small bedroom keep that in mind. (even the 300 is pretty big)

I mean, from another point of view, it is a just sample of two units and may have been a bad batch, though I did buy them about 3 months apart. So 🤷🏼 ♂️ - also, do you get free returns? I did when I purchased, which helped.

I dont think the 300s/400s are a good buy in all honesty. Despite being twice the price of the smaller Coway Mighty, the 300 only has a 40% higher CFM than the Mighty; the 400 is only 70% higher CFM. You could grab two of the Mighty (for about the same price/cheaper) and have a higher peak CFM than a single 300 or 400.

Ignoring that, multiple smaller units should clean better than one larger unit.

One main difference though is that the 300/400's have a better carbon filter. The smaller coways have just the carbon cloth style filter that basically does nothing.

I also think "only 40%" sounds like a ridiculous statement to me. 40% or 70% is a LOT more.
You probably also should look at energy efficiency.

For example, how many total watt-hours would you use running 2 mighty's vs. 1 400.

Those CFM ratings are only applicable in emergency situations, when firesmoke is @ your door, they're so loud, it's utterly unusable otherwise..

In all other situations, more smaller units spread out the house works better and won't drive you insane with noise.

The build quality on the 400 (that's been humming away beautifully for a year) is superb.
