I also think "only 40%" sounds like a ridiculous statement to me. 40% or 70% is a LOT more.
You probably also should look at energy efficiency.
For example, how many total watt-hours would you use running 2 mighty's vs. 1 400.
I think 40% higher CFM is kinda ridiculous considering the 300 costs nearly twice as much as the Mighty. You are right that running one 300 is likely more energy-efficient than two Mightys (both are energy efficient devices and may be eligible for related rebates.) But again for the same purchase costs, with two Mighty's you're getting considerably more air scrubbing capability (~500 vs 350 in CADR ratings) split across two devices (better for scrubbing the air.) Running two Mighty's might cost you an extra $10-15 a year (in electricity) over a single 300. Filter costs ends up being the same.
In terms of appearance, I think the smaller ones are a bit more inconspicuous. For best performance, the 300 will need to be placed in a certain part of your floor/room with open space on the two sides (ie like an open wall), while the smaller ones only need the space in front to be open (ie you could put it in like a corner of a room, open wall, etc etc.) A bit more flexibility in terms of positioning and location.
With the range hood on, it wasn't that bad, depending on where you place the meter.
Ignoring that, multiple smaller units should clean better than one larger unit.
When is the sale ending? I don't want to miss out on either sale by hesitating.

Why and how? It has to do with the fact that one AirMega at approx. 430 CFM is still only one air purifier representing a single location in the room where dirty air can be taken into the air purifier and clean air is outputted back into the room. Our testing showed that multiple lower CFM (250 CFM) units spread out around a large room are much more effective than a single high CFM air purifier like the AirMega
....
But, let's just say for the sake of argument that you really value the AirMega's high CFM. What are you to do if you absolutely need that high CFM? What then?
The problem with buying an AirMega in this scenario is that you can buy two Winix units with a total output of 500 CFM and still be well under the price of a single AirMega unit at a total output of only 430 CFM.

They work better if you keep them in a small room where you work.
If you do a whole house, 2 units on opposite ends also work better than 1 bigger one in the middle.
If you have more than 2, I'm told you must get the smart wifi units, so you don't have to manually set them each time.

With that being said, whether its better to buy multiple larger or multiple smaller/medium units really just depends on price for the performance. The Coway 300 ($300) has a 360 CFM; the Mighty ($143) and Winix ($118) are 250 CFM. In this scenario, buying two of the smaller units provides more total CFM for less than one larger unit. For an extra $60, you could buy 3 Winix purifiers (~$360) and double the CFM of the 300 (ie 750 vs 360 CFM.) If the 300 were cheaper, maybe it would be a better deal over picking up multiple of the smaller units.
Probably the only other thing to keep in mind with the CFM numbers is that they are generally quoting the max/top setting (most ppl dont run these at the top level due to noise.) If you leverage the smart setting (fan adjusts to air quality), it may barely run at all. This is why some places recommend just setting it to the highest setting you can tolerate noise-wise and leaving it alone (ie forcing it scrub the air regardless of air quality.)
Austin Air is medical/industrial grade not consumer grade so CR by definition doesn't even include them.
That said, they're highly regarded as one of the best you can buy,
