I can answer some of the questions here as I've had the 3800 for a few months and added Dirac. In my room and setup Dirac was a big improvement over my own post-Audyssey tuning. That said, if you have the time, patience, and interest, there are cheaper ways to get most of the way there. I feel the price of the software and mic was worth it.

I came from a 3500 and liked it a lot. This has a better UI, including a 4K OSD and much better HEOS screen. I don't really get the complaints about the look of the volume meter. It's simple and functional and looks better than the one on my 3500.

I run a 5.1.2 setup in a 16 x 20 room with Focal speakers and an SVS sub, and I have more than enough power to make listening uncomfortable.

Wowsers, $1k for a new non-refurbished 3800? That's what I'm talking about. Maybe by Black Friday this year I can afford it... Congrats to everyone who will be getting it now for this price.

I bought this new a couple months ago for $1299. Running 7.2.4 with an external amp powering the rear surrounds.
Excellent receiver. Sound is great. No complaints except I wish I paid the $300 less.
Why do you need an external amp to power rears? More than 100 watts?

Sure yea it comes down to which features are important to.

As good as both Dirac RCs are it does not mean XT32 is bad, IMO it's very good also.
So you're not required to buy Dirac.

Me personally I'm glad Denon isn't making me pay for Dirac & like that I will eventually get both.
I have no problem waiting for a deal on them.
You're already paying for Audyssey chief. They're an independent company Denon pays a hefty licensing fee to per unit, particularly XT32. It's baked into the price of the receiver just like Dirac is for the Onkyo/Pionerr/Integras.

no that is how SD does things. all the adorama postings on SD are from SD editors promoting items using the SD affiliate link. posts like this are an advertisement / money maker for SD.
How would you prefer SD make money? Ads? Membership fees?

No, because it's an 11 channel AVR.

Surprised no one is comparing the Onkyo RZ50? In my reading it has same or better audio performance and more features... including DIRAC for free instead of extra cost -
This comparison has been made in just about every thread recently.

The Dennon is better audio quality, the Onkyo is a better value and has better features.

But you are definitely right about Dirac. Considering you have to pay for it on the Dennon and it's free on the Onkyo, the Onkyo comes out to a much better value.

Yes that's the point.
I'm glad Denon didn't bake Dirac into their AVR's like Onkyo/Pionerr/Integras which we pay for(it's not free).

People keep saying Dirac is superior, thats because of their proprietary RC algorithms, both of them.

With Onkyo/Pionerr/Integras you only get Dirac Live baked in with no option for Dirac Live Bass Control, you will with D/M next year.

If people believe Diracs DLBC isn't superior and not needed, that's there personal choice.

If one believes Dirac is superior, IMO it applies to both.
Having that option later is a significant plus IMO.

This deal is f@#king wild. I got the rx-a6a from adorama a few months ago but I miss denon...
Both of these are on my list…. This is tempting. I currently run an TSR700 (2.1 update) and actually enjoy it with my KEF Q series 5.1.2 setup (in-ceiling atmos) - looking for a way into a good 9/11 channel and also love outputs to get real power for my front Q950

You will be paying a total of $850 in software licenses for Dirac with Multi-Sub Bass Control, literally the price of the entire AVR in downloadable content. In truth there's probably nothing preventing the Onkyo conglomerate from offering it as an update besides a lack of desire, and certainly not from offering it in a new 2023 model year RZ60 model. Honestly Denon should ditch Audyssey and just include full range Dirac by default. XT32 has remained unchanged for over a decade, MEQ-X should be free to keep themselves competitive, not a $250 add-on to fix their old ass software.

Additional circuits create more audio/video noise in the system. The simpler the better IMO
That's an unfortunately bad opinion. The circuit complexity of the DSP and HDMI chains are soooo much more complex than the GUIs. A FANCY GUI would require nothing from the system beyond some memory for graphics storage.

Furthermore well designed circuits don't suffer "noise" from "complexity"

Analog design simply needs to be done correctly, not simply.

How about this setup The JBL's are currently on sale.

L/C/R JBL Studio 590
Surrounds JBL Studio 580
Atmos RSL C34ce

You need an external amp if you're running more than 9 channels.
I could run 5.1.4 without needing an external amp because the sub is powered, correct? But 7.1.4 would require it?

Having different options available for different needs is good though. I'm very happy Onkyo baked Dirac into the 9.2 7100 and that I was able to get it for $699. I am using it in a smaller room with one subwoofer and it performs better than the Denon 7.2 with XT32 that I upgraded from. What the 7100 provides is enough for me and the price/performance is stellar.
