I can answer some of the questions here as I've had the 3800 for a few months and added Dirac. In my room and setup Dirac was a big improvement over my own post-Audyssey tuning. That said, if you have the time, patience, and interest, there are cheaper ways to get most of the way there. I feel the price of the software and mic was worth it.

I came from a 3500 and liked it a lot. This has a better UI, including a 4K OSD and much better HEOS screen. I don't really get the complaints about the look of the volume meter. It's simple and functional and looks better than the one on my 3500.

I run a 5.1.2 setup in a 16 x 20 room with Focal speakers and an SVS sub, and I have more than enough power to make listening uncomfortable.

Wowsers, $1k for a new non-refurbished 3800? That's what I'm talking about. Maybe by Black Friday this year I can afford it... Congrats to everyone who will be getting it now for this price.

I was going to order but got discouraged reading and watching these two resources:

How does this compare to Pioneer Elite VSX-LX305 with Dirac built in. I picked one up from Best Buy at $680+tax. Not very happy and wanted to know if upgrading to this will be night and day difference. Driving KEF LS50 Meta and B&W HTM S2 center channel and REL sub.

Currently have a 5.2.2 setup but already have speakers in ceiling for 5.2.4. Is this worth the upgrade if my x3500h is still working fine ?

At 1000, I feel confident that Andrew Robinson would say this can't be beat

I agree. He was reviewing them at $1,700 and he never really talks about specs so it is just his tastes that he didn't like the Denon X3800h as much. He did love the RZ50 though.

Shane liked the x3800h even at the $1,700 price.

It depends what's your preference, needs and your setup.

Reading audioscience, are those measurements audible, personally no I can't hear them.

On the YT they mention preference, style, looks, budget, tech, etc.

Preference is paramount, Yamaha is a good example of that.
The rest is what are your important needs.

If Dirac is important need, come next year this plus BOTH Dirac RCs(DL & DLBC). It will easily be the least expensive to have it.

It depends on why you are unhappy & how this will fix the issue(s).

One glaring upgrade need is the 9 channels.
This has 9 channels built in but there are less expensive 9 channel options.

Is Adorama a trusted website? I read mixed reviews.

Thank you.

Dang... bought at launch in November for $1529 (best buy had 10% off of using their credit card)

Love the receiver so much I'm not disappointed. Upgraded from an onkyo tx-nr1030 running a 7.4.4 Atmos setup.

my subs are VBSS DIYs run off a single amp so I'm not using the 4 sub output yet

Yeah they are legit and out of NYC. They are fine to buy from. They have been around for awhile.

This comparison has been made in just about every thread recently.

The Dennon is better audio quality, the Onkyo is a better value and has better features.

But you are definitely right about Dirac. Considering you have to pay for it on the Dennon and it's free on the Onkyo, the Onkyo comes out to a much better value.
Exact opposite. Onkyo TX-RZ50 blows the 3800 on the sound front. Features and app wise Denon is more polished.

I have the Onkyo RZ50. I ordered the x3800 a couple of weeks ago. After set up and Audyssey calibration. And tweaking Audyssey via the app. I honestly can't hear a difference between the x3800 and rz50. You won't be disappointed at all in the x3800.
