grrrr... most of these require a fee/subscription to read/clear more advanced codes, not just turn off the check engine light on the dash, but still flagged in the onboard computer. this particular reader will show a $ sign next to premium features that you have to pay for.

I assume this model won't do SoC (state of charge) type hybrid or electric vehicle diagnostics? Anyone know what the cheapest option is to have that functionality?

From the reviews and answers that I saw it appears no subscription is needed for this

You have to pay for some features?? Other than that it's pretty good!

Like many others have said, this code reader has been recommended by multiple YouTubers and for the price I wanted to give it a try! For the price it looks really good. Definitely like this code reader over my old Walmart bright plastic red one! Feels more professional. As for build quality, it's well put together and the buttons feel amazing! Nice and tactile, along with a great color screen. Very legible and easy to use. It connected right to my Volkswagen Beetle and read my 2 codes I knew I already had. They do list as generic codes, but at-least they did show up. What I do wish was mentioned is that some features shown available on this reader have to be paid for. When highlighting over different options they show little money symbols ($) next to them which is disappointing. I understand this is already a cheap code reader but I'd rather those options not be there at all instead of waving a dollar sign at me. Overall I like this code reader, I cleared my two codes to see if they'll actually go away from this unit and to see if they will come back on. (I replaced the parts already, I know that just clearing the codes doesn't fix the problem!) I will update this review in the future!

No, that's OBDII Mode 8 (there are various mode readouts)
It's just the way it's labeled. These little units have no fees.
