The worst case scenario is they recalled a ton of drives and pulled the "good" nand from them to put into new drives. But who are we kidding? It's cheaper for them to go to a landfill.

You might also be confused with the more recent firmware issue where the wear was incorrectly reported and the drives got write locked. This drive wasn't one of the ones affected.

Recall? LOL, they are just letting those ticking time bombs fail on people and replacing them assuming they bother RMAing it. Lose your data? Too bad, hope you backed up. That's the cheaper option for Samsung compared to a recall. I'm guessing being cheap and trying to save a couple cents per drive is what caused the problem.

Great deal. Just bought 2TB crucial yesterday for $67 after Discover promo (the ONLY one I got except for AmEx spent 716 pts). This would have been much better Oh well, bought the LG C2 65" two weeks ago for $200 more, also. Definitely losing the touch.

Are you talking about the 2021 issue or the more recent firmware one?

Regardless, it's always odd when people come out of the woodwork to cheer on Samsung failing.

Your jaw would drop at how many fabs they have going and who they're making nand for.

I don't agree with monopolies, but when even Apple is needing something from you, you're probably doing something half-right.

Exactly what happened to me a week ago.
I'm not going to RMA it because I've got sensitive data on it and can't format/erase it due to the bad blocks.

At least SSD prices have fallen and I'm only out $50...
Definitely soured me on Samsung, and there's no way I'd risk picking up another 870 EVO.

Oh no, that's a horror story I'm hoping to avoid...

May I ask when you bought that 870 Evo? And this was a 4TB one?

It was a 1TB drive bought in mid 2021, likely one of the batch from early 2021 when the issue was most prevalent.

If I got another drive from this line, I'd be sure to regularly check drive health and SMART status with Samsung Magician just to be sure.

I'm saying they know there's a defect with a certain 870 evo batch but are just letting them fail rather than doing a recall. Cheering for Samsung to fail? Are we supposed to remain silent about a drive that's failed on a lot of people? There's nothing odd about this, you having a problem with me is what's odd. If Apple did something like this I doubt you'd be trying to defend it like you are here with Samsung.

Lol that's because they kept the prices high with their ssd the longest compared to others during these price drops.

They're basically king of ssds so yea.. If we can knock them down a peg or 2 and humble them just a tad, to promote competition, why not? Lol

So yea, booo with their 870 Evo 2021 batch high failure rate.

And boooo with their 980 pro firmware fiasco that people had to download themselves to fix..

And booo they didn't learn their lesson and did the same thing to their 990 pro line too with that firmware LOL.

But I might buy this 4tb ssd LOL. I'm no rush though. If Bestbuy price matched then that's a good sign that this isn't really a "prime deal" but rather it's what the NEAR future pricing will be soon enough. So yep.. I don't mind waiting

You and Slickdeezee seem to be linked, so I'll respond to both of you.

If Samsung is the de-facto standard for nand that other companies can't produce, where is your alternative?

I understand your complaints, but what is your solution?
