Just leaving this comment here for the benefit of others - This is the Edge (Mediatek processor) and not the Edge + with the Snapdragon processor.

I have a pixel 6a and this Moto edge. Other than the updates, the Moto is a much better daily driver. I've been using it since December and have found it perfectly capable. The screen is impressive and bright. The camera has a larger main sensor than my galaxy S 22, and although the software is weaker, it takes really nice photos that look great even printed out at 8.5 by 11. The speakers are much better than my galaxy or iPhone. The media Tech is surprisingly responsive, although obviously not as fast as the snapdragon in the Edge plus. It's very lightweight and feels nicely balanced in the hand. I'm sure others will disagree vehemently, but I heartily recommend this phone at this price.

The megapixel count isn't what matters on modern smartphones. It's just a marketing figure. The AI software that's processing the photo is what matters. Also, the quality of the sensor is more important than the pixel count. The Pixel 7 line only has a 50MP camera and it's tied with Samsung and Apple's flagships for the best photos. Moto has inferior software than the leading manufacturers. Moto has a phone with a 200MP camera, yet it takes inferior photos to even the Pixel 5's 12MP camera. Depending on what you're documenting, the Moto may still be fine, though. It's not like the photos will be a completely blurry mess. They just won't look as crisp and photogenic.

They said the Motorola One 5G Ace would be getting Android 12 and then a year later they backtracked and never delivered.

Edit: To be clear, I'm not saying the phone isn't a good value for free or even $250. I just wouldn't count on timely upgrades (or even upgrades period).
When Motorola One 5G Ace was released, Motorola only promised/guaranteed one major OS update. Later when Android 12 came out, Motorola One 5G Ace was not on the Android 12 update eligibility list initially but consumers signed a petition asking Motorola to provide Android 12 for this phone criticizing Motorola for releasing a phone with android 10 when android 11 was out almost half year and Motorola should have released the phone with android 11 from the very beginning. After the petition, Motorola added it to the android 12 update list saying Motorola "MIGHT" release android 12 for it which went nowhere. So technically, Motorola never promised android 12 for it. Motorola only agreed to try to build android 12 firmware for it which might succeed or fail. If Motorola did promise Android 12 for it but failed, it would have faced a class lawsuit.
What a fiasco. Motorola did give users a false hope.

I have the edge+ version, the last security update was in February. You have been warned, sure it is cheap but the hidden cost can be much higher given that there are many vulnerabilities on an older OS version. Sure you can run open source but you would need extra steps to unlock the bootloader with Moto.

If you really do care about vulnerabilities/security/privacy, you shouldn't use smartphone at all. Every smartphone, be it android or IOS, have so many backdoors beyond your imagination. As soon as you use smartphone, it's pointless to talk about vulnerabilities. Don't let the corporates fool you using the term "security". "Security" and "smartphone" don't co-exist at all.

I am not saying updates are useless, but only for new features in the new OS and better application compatibility as some popular apps will stop supporting older OS, not for the so-called "security update". In every so-called "security vulnerability fix updates" or "more secure operation system updates", it brings more vulnerabilities than those it claims to have fixed. That's why you see more and more and never ending/decreasing vulnerabilities.

You do see more so-called "reported" vulnerabilities in old OS, but you should focused on the keyword "reported". New OSs may have much more unreported yet vulnerabilities. Many of those vulnerabilities are not just bugs but delibrately baked inside the OSs.

People really need to stop talking about "security" alongside of "smartphones".

Really? Of course there are vulnerabilities but they are not known to your average malicious actor. On the other hand, published vulnerabilities are well public and anybody with enough expertise can make use of them. I care about my security/privacy to a degree where I can control them. This company promising updates but not delivering them is something that people in this thread need to know to make an informed decision.

You do know that those "reported" vulnerabilities were usually only reported long time after actual discovery (maybe many years)? Hackers usually only use un-reported vulnerabilities to get the maximum hacking success. Long before the vulnerabilities are reported, the hackers have already moved to other unreported vulnerabilities which is actually why those vulnerabilities are reported/published. In many cases, the hackers intentionally publish those vulnerabilities when they think they are not valuable anymore. Most of the hackings using those reported vulnerabilities happened before they were reported. If you are one of the valuable targets, you would have been hacked before those vulnerabilities were reported.

So those reported/published vulnerabilities actually pose much less threats to general consumers than the unreported/unpublished vulnerabilities.

General smartphone users have neither the capability nor the significance to care about vulnerabilities in their phones.
If a smartphone user is targeted by hackers due to his/her significance, having a smartphone with more so-called "security updates" won't help at all.

Smartphone users DON'T have control over their phones, which is a sad fact that many users don't like to acknowledge/accept. As we move to more digitized world, we lose more and more control.

T-Mobile has the 128GB version for free after bill credits with any trade in, any condition. Promo code P444. I just traded an old Motorola V600 at Costco TMobile kiosk and also got a $75 Costco shop card. Not sure if it excludes any plans, but I'm on an old Simple Choice plan and I qualified, I assume it's for any plan.
I can't believe it made it to page 6 without mention. ^This is the way.

Imo Just buy the Moto Power for the same price. It an updated model, has the same storage,SD Slot, same battery and comes with android 13 already. I have the Edge + and it has yet to get 13 yet and it's almost August 2023. For my money it's what I would buy.

With budget OnePlus phones you get 1 android update and 3 years of security updates. I have a Nord 200 and it works fine for what it does. Nothing wrong with Motorola phones but they always seem to behind the curve on updates. My previous phone was a cheap Moto E5 that came with Android 8 and only one year of security updates. I guess you shouldn't expect much from a $50 phone.

That's a a tough one. This is better than the 6a in every way but brand. My aunt got the 6a and I have to say I'm really disappointed with it (I set it up for her so I have a lot of experience with it), no wireless charging on the 6a and the OS is painfully lacking. I get that the pixel us supposed to be a virgin android experience but as a Samsung user it felt like I went back 10 years.

But I'd trust google to support it for longer than motorola
I can compare 6a to 2022 stylus 5g. The processor the pixel uses is significantly faster but the battery life suffers.

I'm ocd with battery life and probably can only get 2 days from the 6a. Gone are the days of g7 power going 4-5 days...

The biggest issue with the Motorola phones is their cameras, they just plain suck. It's ok for the budget range but even the cameras on flagships are trash. Basically a Pixel ruined me even a $100-150 Pixel 5/5a from Amazon takes so much better photos and videos.

Interesting that a budget model got the 13 update before their flagship line. So much for the previously mentioned theory that flagships got preferred treatment regarding updates.

What is the specifics of *any condition*? What if it doesn't turn on? LMAOLMAOLMAO
I have an S7 Edge in the drawer alongside Moto Z2 Force Edition and an Alcatel Idol 4S (Windows Phone). The later 2 are in perfect working conditions but S7Edge doesn't respond. Am contemplating to do trade-in at Costco if they can accept S7E. Need clarification over this *any condition* thingy

You need to be able to provide the IMEI. Most models that can only be found by turning on the device.

Looks like Moto is up to their old tricks again. They've changed how long they are providing security updates on this phone from 4 years to 3 years.

Press release for this phone (https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ost?id=466) said:

"The device will also receive 3 years of OS upgrades and 4 years of bi-monthly security updates."

Security Update page (https://en-us.support.motorola.co...ity-update) for this phone says:

"Security updates will stop on August, 2025"
