Just leaving this comment here for the benefit of others - This is the Edge (Mediatek processor) and not the Edge + with the Snapdragon processor.

I have a pixel 6a and this Moto edge. Other than the updates, the Moto is a much better daily driver. I've been using it since December and have found it perfectly capable. The screen is impressive and bright. The camera has a larger main sensor than my galaxy S 22, and although the software is weaker, it takes really nice photos that look great even printed out at 8.5 by 11. The speakers are much better than my galaxy or iPhone. The media Tech is surprisingly responsive, although obviously not as fast as the snapdragon in the Edge plus. It's very lightweight and feels nicely balanced in the hand. I'm sure others will disagree vehemently, but I heartily recommend this phone at this price.

The megapixel count isn't what matters on modern smartphones. It's just a marketing figure. The AI software that's processing the photo is what matters. Also, the quality of the sensor is more important than the pixel count. The Pixel 7 line only has a 50MP camera and it's tied with Samsung and Apple's flagships for the best photos. Moto has inferior software than the leading manufacturers. Moto has a phone with a 200MP camera, yet it takes inferior photos to even the Pixel 5's 12MP camera. Depending on what you're documenting, the Moto may still be fine, though. It's not like the photos will be a completely blurry mess. They just won't look as crisp and photogenic.

For all those complaining about no sd card slot, you realize most phones stopped having those a few years ago? Everyone wants everything digital now and cloud crap (which I hate because all the stuff we buy digitally could disappear at any time but people are too dumb to realize that nowadays) and the companies cheap out as much as they can (Samsung, apple) while companies like Xiaomi give you chargers and everything in the box.

Would this be a decent upgrade from my Moto G Power 2020?

This Edge 2022 8/256gb or G Stylus 5g 2023 6/256gb?
I have been a fan of the GStylus 5g, it works fine for my daily routine.

I like this phone, its specs, etc. However, because of the cpu on it, there will never be a customizable ROM available. I have a OnePlus 8 5G that has some nice roms and I'm happy. I'll ask the wife if she might like this phone, as she doesn't care what's on her phone as long as she can watch youtube video's and read her romance novels.
Ended up buying one for the wife last week using the amazon payment plan (zero interest).
Wife likes the phone. Happy Wife, Happy Life. I still state I love my bootloader unlocked OnePlus 8 5G with the Pixel Experience rom and Nova Launcher. I clicked the 'I bought this' on the front page to give the original poster some reps. Applause

Hopefully SD card slots make a comeback. They don't take up all that much space and the little space the manufacturers did reclaim hasn't really been all that well used.

You are correct that it's just another push to get you onto their subscription model for some cloud hosted storage. Sadly those who care about the SD card slot are the vast minority and are drowned out by the drones that need to take 10,000 selfies an hour. Which is what phones now cater to.

agreed

the point of having sd card for me, is to take lots of pictures without having to worry about a sub or internet connection

i've catered to buy mid-range phones to compensate. hopefully next gen mid range phones will have both wireless charging and waterproof ratings.

No issue. I have the 128GB version and so far no complaints. (Note: I only have this phone for 1 week).

TCL phones have the highest return rates.
Really? How do you know this? We use the TCL 30 and 40 XL at work as service-less INTUNE managed Android palm top devices. I've ordered 40 so far and not a single one has been bad. That is a 100% keep rate. Just my feedback.

this has 256gb. how many photos is that, 1 billion?

cloud storage is cheap/free if worst came to worst. as for an internet connection, upload pics when you have wifi and then clear space? although i cant imagine this is a real issue you have.

anyway sd really needs to stop talking about the fake sd card thing. they've been gone for yrs and it's still a majority of discussion. very fake.

afaik no phone even has sd card so what is the point of any complaining? like are you going to buy another phone with an sd slot in protest of this one? oh wait there arent any.
