Obviously your laptop must support that in order to get 60hz.

Many top end laptops do and some budget ones as well.

I might buy this one in the OP and compare with this one I bought during Prime Days for my Tab S8+ (same price): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BVLZ4LXR
The Anker in OP has the brand name but instead has a headphone jack, whereas this gives back a USB C slot (not familiar with this brand though).

So tempted to get a hub so we don't have to connect/disconnect laptop, monitor and their accessories but I kept reading too many bad reviews about heat and disconnection.

I assume since my gaming laptop has a barrel plug charger I can't use this right? Or would it work without using the ac pass through just plugged into a usb c port?

You should check if your laptop supports USB-C charging. If it does, you can use this with a USB-C passthrough. Otherwise you can use it but you'll have to plug in your barrel charger as well. Also check what wattage does your gaming laptop needs. If it's higher than 85W, then this won't provide adequate power to your laptop.

Fakespot isn't really that great. It uses algorithms to identify trends in reviews and that includes grammatical and spelling mistakes. It might also look for reviews that are similar to each other.

Here's the problem : many people have crap spelling and grammar. The amount of times my co-worker would say "Hey AntiFan, how do you spell this word?" Was ridiculous. I've written out responses as an example for somebody when they were asked something and guess what? Ctrl-c, ctrl-v.

Now what about identical posts? Well, if you've ever bought or sold stuff on eBay it seems like people think there's a special way of talking on there. "A+++++ would buy again!". Never mind I only had one thing to sell. People are weird.

I'd take the fakespot grade with a grain of salt. It won't tell you if the product is good or not. It just indicates reliability of reviews (bots, promoted reviews, fake reviews) and even that is questionable.
