Processors are getting ridiculously cheap.

Now might be a time to upgrade to a lga1700 motherboard if you're overdue for an upgrade but don't wish to spend more than $200 all together. Paired with this processor it's decently fast for any application including gaming for an i3 processor.

I know Amazon did not care to add the word processor to the end of their title, but you need to. This is not a desktop.

This is me. I got a 3060 to put into it, but am going to be buying everything else new. Not sure if I should go up to i5 or not. I like the idea of gaming, but cant really get into it anymore, although half the problem may be trying to game on such an old PC....

I don't know what you're currently running, but I think old CPUs with new GPUs are plenty capable. My old I7 8700K is within a few frames of a new Ryzen 7700 in 4K gaming (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81c5wMZTNfI). And at 1080p, sure it is a lot slower. But I don't care if I can play games at 280FPS. I am actually about to upgrade one of my old machines to an I7-4770, throw my 6700XT into it and make it a purely sim machine. There are a lot of people with slower cards getting 80+ FPS. This needing the newest processor for gaming is silly. Maybe it is just because I am super basic. I am getting well north of 60FPS in both 4K and Dual QHD.

But, where my 8700K is slow is photo and video editing. Fortunately, I only do that about once a month over a weekend and it doesn't affect me enough to shell out a grand for the newest CPU / mobo / RAM.

How does this compare with a 7950X3D? Can't decide what I'm going to go with.

This processor kills the resale value of old gen intel processors.

Same thing here, 8700k with a 3080ti. I'm pretty darn close to modern CPUs at 4k. It's crazy to see my ROG Ally get better CPU benchmarks but for gaming it's fine. I want to upgrade, which is why I'm looking at deals, but just can't justify it yet. I'm thinking a 7600 or 7700 to start, then drop in the AM5 equivalent of the 5800x3d in a few years. But maybe I just do handhelds and someone comes out with a non proprietary pcie port to use an egpu like the ASUS XG.

I saw some i3 13100f for 99 on ebay. On some video reviews for gaming, there was a 5-8 fps difference when the fps was around 50-70 which may be worth 20 for some.

This is much faster and has more cores than 7950X3D and the built-in graphics beats 4090ti hands down.
Please note that this one does NOT have built-in graphics.

I just bought this before seeing this post, I recommend looking at getting the MSI MAG B660M MORTAR MAX. It allows you to overclock it and really unlock the potential.

That video I posted convinced me to not get a 7700...because I basically get the same frame rate. Imma have to hold out for a bit longer.

Ill.probably buy a DJI FPV drone this year instead.
