Nintendo *might* provide a free repair on the joycons but you probably can't expect any other support for this.

Best model to get? And can I mod it for emulation only? Don't plan on playing switch games.
For emulation, you're probably better off grabbing the cheapest model Steam Deck for a little more. Very capable emulator, from Atari all the way up to some ps3 / switch games.

You can always add a SD card or upgrade the internal m.2 drive with YouTube guides.

Is this region specific? Will it only play Japanese games or can it play US games as well?

you should repair the joycons yourself. slap in the hall sensors for a couple bucks more and they're better than the original. takes maybe 5 min per controller, they sell kits on amazon

yes and yes but a terrible idea. there are dedicated handhelds just for this purpose that match/exceed switch specs, for much cheaper

I don't believe it is region specific but not 100% positive

I'd check out Retroid to see if that matches your need better.

What are hall sensors? I have drift in one of my controllers where it thinks you're moving down when you're not touching the stick. Does the hall sensor fix this issue?

Hall sensors use magnets to detect their movement, making them much more reliable

Honestly, if you have a decent Android phone, it will be much better than this for emulation, without all the headache.

I also pair my phone with this and get a much more comfortable experience https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09RBD3...b_ap_share

My OnePlus 11 device plays dolphin emulator GameCube titles at full 60fps.

Yes. Can confirm. Changed this for a brother in law. Swap is easy as long as you go slow. Going fast you're bound to rip ribbon cables.

Make sure to go into the switch settings to calibrate the controller. His was spot on but it doesn't hurt to do it.

He said it was slightly different in terms of feeling, but said it was negligible and he was back to destroying kids on Splatoon within minutes of practing with them.

Just a heads up, the Japanese units have problem connecting with 5ghz Wifi according to this SD post:

Thanks for the feedback. So the hall sensor is for the left and right stick?

No you cannot mod unless you are a master of soldering.

Yeah you buy the kit and it gives you both. The kit I bought even came with the tiny screwdrivers, thumbstick covers, and I think some other stuff. But I think you can get just the joysticks. They're a little pricier than the old school ones but they're supposed to never drift.
