You don't need "FU money" to purchase a TotL headphone or IEM, or several of them.

It's a hobby. Like all hobbies, there are many people who spend a little or a lot of money to satisfy their desire to collect or experience their hobby in different ways. Some people spend thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands on watches, cars, cologne, purses, clothes, shoes, perfumes, knives, PC/consoles/games, etc. They don't need to be rich. They just need to budget out a portion of their income for entertainment and for their hobby. People who love music are no different.

Honestly, a good deal for anyone looking to buy a top of the line 'endgame' headphone. Most people will troll and scoff at this price, but it's a great price for audiophiles.

We all have different hobbies, this falls into the percentage of my disposable income I,assign to hobbies. Others migh value cars, going out and so on, value is relative.

The only people paying this much for headphones should have FU money and aren't browsing slickdeals.

Again…you are only showing your ignorance when you say this product is "dumb" or that $100-200 items do the same thing. You can say that about any product…why don't we all own low end cars….since they "all do the same thing" and get you from point A to point B. If it brings some people more enjoyment to listen to music using high end equipment, that is their prerogative. If you are not interested in the deal, you are welcome to skip it….but leaving comments that are not helpful to those that are interested serves little purpose.

You clearly aren't understanding my point. Framerates and pixel density are clear obvious metrics with meaningful consequences to anyone with eyes. Sound reproduction is a solved science with a reached ceiling, past a certain point it's completely subjective and head voodoo. Different headphones have different sound profiles that people enjoy. Buy 10 $300 headphones if you're a hobbyist. Not one $3,000 headphone because it's expensive.
This entirely a false equivalency. There are perceivable differences even with your sense of taste which is also subjective and yet we have fine dining restaurants that serve meals that cost more than most people's weekly salary or more.

Don't get me wrong, every product industry has its snake oil but to blanket claim that $2700 headphones has no perceivable difference as a $300 one is ludicrous. Your sense of hearing is either dead or damaged in which case it's the same as a blind or visually impaired person complaining about $2000 monitors vs a $150 one. Resolution is in the eyes or ears of the beholder apparently.

People buy these headphones for the audible differences, not because they are expensive. If these were $300, it would be nano brainer to buy it but the physical material cost of the beryllium in the drivers alone are double or triple that.

As someone who has headphones at various price points, ($50-$6000) even a $300 one. I can tell you that every person I have demoed the set of headphones to without telling them the price of each could discern which sounded better (spoiler it's the expensive one) using the same audio stack.

I'm fairly positive 5-6 echos or echo dots on sale for <$200 will do 90% as good of a job and MUCH more user-friendly. It's not like taylor swift is beethoven or anything that requires pure sound
Sure. And a surgeon would do 90% of the job correctly with a kitchen knife instead of a scalpel. Heck, maybe even a razor blade. Why waste the money?

The link has ALWAYS been for $5000. Is the deal dead if you go to the cart, checkout and enter the promo code to get the discount? (does it let you order them if they are backordered?)

I won't pretend to justify the price of these cans because they are certainly not in a price range I would spend for them. I will offer this. I have owned the wireless Focal headphones for about four years now. Picked them up at a reasonable $ in Greece while on vacation. They are the best wireless cans I have ever heard. They don't do noise cancellation and frankly they don't need it. What they do is produce incredibly high quality audio from a Bluetooth signal. The battery still charges to 100% and I treasure these things. My guess is Focal headphones are all superior. So maybe not the $2700 for this pair is in your budget. $400 for the wireless I would highly recommend.

If you liked the focal listen headphones you should try the Bathys!

I often wonder how many audiophiles would be able to tell the difference between a pair of, say, $1000 headphones vs $2000 headphones in a double blind test.
Very very few
