Even if they are the same quality steel with the same hardening treatment, the quality of work and finishing and quality control are definitely different. For example, look where the wire feed hole ended up on the Harbor Freight 7/8" bit. How did that crap get out of the factory, let alone into a package that they took pictures of for the website?

Personally I feel like spade bits cut faster and rougher. I like the bigger sizes because it is way more economical than a 1" bit but have to go super slow. These can catch if you go too fast and yank the drill if you are not ready for it.
Yeah I hate getting yanked when I'm not ready for it.

Depends on what you're doing. I like using forstner bits, spades followed by regular bits.

Hole saw bits have their uses too depending on the size you're drilling

It's not like that. I bought a set the other day. See for yourself here:

Also, you can just inspect them before you buy in case some are defective.

That set got the hole a bit lower on the 7/8, but quite off center on the 1/2, and the size stamping is horribly inconsistent. Harbor Freight's quality control is terrible and that's just the stuff that is readily visible in a low res picture...

Who honestly cares if the hole is not perfectly in the same spot on every single bit, and complaining about the stamp size is just idiotic lol. The hole serves its purpose for pulling cables through. I'd rather save 60% percent with Warrior's.

While it doesn't really affect the function, it goes to show the quality control of the product. If Harbor Freight couldn't even get the holes positioned correctly and size stamping even close to consistent, what do you think the quality is like on the aspects that we can't see, like the metal alloying, heat treating, grinding/sharpening, etc.?

That Harbor Freight set has one thing going for it, it's cheap. But cheap in price goes along with cheap quality.

Harbor Freight does cheap out on a lot of things I agree. But we are talking about spade bits here. I highly doubt there will be a noticeable difference in performance compared to Milwaukee's.

Those twist ends are no good for any kind of semi-precise depth work, only through-holes.

Obviously a forstener with a stop is best but if you only need to be vaguely precise, i.e. for holes you will plug, then you don't want a "speed" set. The twisty end really wants to pull you through.

All true, but remember these are special Milwaukee "High Speed Wood Spade Bits", lol!

Lmao. Steel comes in millions of variations. And the cutting edge matters a lot too. HF bits are horrible. Use a couple times and throw away. Milwaukee can be used many times, easier to drill with, and worth resharpening when needed.

That's why this set is kinda dumb though. You only need 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 1"
