Somehow missed in all the REI cycling deal posts of the last couple days are SPD-SL pedals at 50% off.

RS500's are $32.50 once carted:

RS550's are $49.99 once carted:

No risk of getting knockoffs like you may with aggressively priced pedals on eBay or Amazon. Both are painted resin rather than carbon bodies, so a bit heavier (50-60 grams) than 105's but with the same stack height and pedal center. 550's are a handful of grams lighter than the 500's, have a greater spring tension range, a offer couple extra degrees of lean before road strike, although I wouldn't expect that to be an issue for most people looking in this range.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

These are SPD-SL which are very different than SPD. Typically SPD and Crank Brothers Egg Beater cleats/pedals are more MTB and Gravel specific because you do want more float (side to side movement). These are road specific and you usually don't want much float on road riding to prevent loss of power transfer.

Hey, thanks. Might grab a pair for the trainer. I wish they would knock a hundred off the Ultegras for one of my new builds.

FREE shipping has a minimum $50 order. Otherwise, shipping for just these pedals is probably like $6.

These can be trouble for newbies. If it's anything like the old lower level spd peddles, they don't go to a vertical position when not clipped. They move freely so you may have to look down to clip. Hard for newbies on hills, at lights, in traffic. Ultegra is so so much better but expensive.

I am a beginner road rider, after doing research on how to peddle better and more effectively, it seems that "road pedals" designed for "road shoes" help greatly with being able to "focus on pulling (instead of the pushing) their pedals". So I was just wondering if those of you who cycle have felt such improvement when using these types of pedals/shoes? With just regular pedals and tennis shoes, I find it hard to perform this more effective peddling technique.

These help to use your full pedal stroke. If you plan on doing longer rides like 20+ miles these will help a lot.

I strongly recommend against SPD cleats they aren't very good for your ankles. SPD doesn't allow for much side to side movement. I'd get some crank Brothers ones instead.
