Unfortunately, the Hisense U9DG has a mediocre response time. There's terrible ghosting behind fast-moving objects, and it's noticeable even when navigating menus in streaming apps. Unlike the Hisense U8G, it's not just behind red objects. In 'Game' Mode and with the variable refresh rate feature enabled, it's just as bad, and it doesn't look good when gaming or watching sports.

Supposedly there's a firmware update that addresses that I saw on the internets. Can't remember where .. Reddit maybe. Idk. Something to check out

Some pretty bad performance pitfalls on this TV and rtings.com goes on to say that the Samsung QN90a is a better set

But this is $976 for a 75" tv. That's like saying a 2 door Porsche that costs $130,000 is better than Land Cruiser that's seats 7 and is $65,000. I mean it may be the case but they're different sizes and one is half the cost so you have to weigh that into affect as well

That is apples and oranges...and I am not sure how many years you would have to back to buy a new Land Cruiser for $65K
Used ones are probably bringing more than that right now

Anyway...since you are using past tense numbers
The fact that rtings says this TV is worse than a Samsung qn90A......and people bought those for $1100-1200 in the past makes me think this TV should be no more than $750

I'm surprised anybody still has any of these given how long ago they stopped making them. Unique and fascinating set, but also has some glaring issues. If you want something rare with great performance in some respects and think the flaws here won't bother you all that much, worth considering, especially given that the broader industry doesn't seem interested in improving or working on this dual-layer tech anymore. Very much a 'what-if' product.
RTings had a good round-up per usual (linked up thread) and LTT did a video ages ago:

DigitalTrends is more skeptical:

And RTings' video is the most detailed and demos it more properly:

Either way, a cool thing, but really depends on your needs and what you're comfortable with. I also suspect since it's a Hisense the SoC might be underpowered, despite this being a high-end model. Any case, at least worth considering beyond reading a 2-3 sentence comparison with other sets and calling it a day.

Not only that, but there do exist people that *gasp* only watch their entertainment and don't play video games. The TV is pretty spectacular for movies and TV that don't involve sports with a tiny ball or puck.

If anyone fits that description, this TV is a helluva deal.

Does anybody know if recent firmware updates have fixed any of their issues? ie, low brightness, motion blur (even while watching fast action movies, sports, etc..)

Maybe for $600, you'll get NO support on this unit, and there won't be any replacement parts.

Got 1 update the past year. I bought this tv and plenty of bugs.
Does anyone know what version this tv is supposed to have right now?

If you buy this I'd urge you to get a multi year warranty. Mine failed after 6/ months I had to get another tv. Get 2-3-4 year warranty or you'll end up with a piece of garbage
