Usually nothing for existing customers.

Cancel your service now, sign up for this deal under a different name (someone else that lives with you)

That's how I've gotten yearly deals

On Gigabit tier $70 a month with Autopay from checking. Everytime my offer runs out, something or other works out with Xfinity. If one CS doesn't help, disconnect and call again. Doing this since 10+ years. I have Verizon available in my area as well which is tad cheaper on gigabit tier, but I keep Xfinity.

Xfinity pricing is always based on the fact how much people can spend in their service area + how many other competitors are there. So lot of YMMV.

Yes, it only means they lock you into that price for 2 years, without risk of increase. You can cancel anytime. If a better deal came along, I could switch to it I presume.

No, you don't first cancel. You just keep on going as if you are moving to a new address (which is your current address), choose "your own modem" if that is what you want, and complete the order by logging into the current account. This causes the existing service to be automatically canceled (you get an e-mail about that right away) and the new service to be put in (you get an e-mail about this almost simultaneously as the other).

Once you get these two e-mails, you call or chat with an agent to transfer the MAC # from the old to the new service.

By the way, the old service was alive the whole time until the MAC transfer of the modem occurred (I did it about 90 minutes after I put in the new order).
Awesome! Thanks a lot for the detailed description. I will report back how it goes for me too.

Went exactly as you mentioned. Unfortunately, it wasn't as smooth for me though. The first agent that I contacted to transfer modem, put in the wrong MAC ID and it took them a full day to catch that mistake (and I didn't have internet access). Other than that, very easy $28 save per month. Thanks again!

Glad to hear that the "trick" worked, although I am sorry about the MAC foul-up. That sure sounds like a major hassle. But I am happy to learn that you are now saving nicely!

I followed the steps yesterday to sign up as a "new customer", then logged in with my xfinity credentials. I received the service cancellation email effective immediately, and another email with my new account info.

This morning, I received an email saying that cancellation of the old account is now scheduled for 2 weeks from now. I guess I should chat and have them close it immediately, then move the Modem MAC to the new account?

If you can remember it, I suppose it's okay to ride the old service for the next couple of weeks. However, if I were you, I would just move the modem's MAC address right away so you are done with the transition and on with the new service.

I don't know if this has something to do with the fact that I shut down the old service immediately, but I got a refund from Comcast for a portion of the monthly service fee for the old service.

Not so fast, more likely than not you'll be double billed.
I did it that way, and not only I didn't get double-billed, but also did I get a refund for the old service for its remaining service period.

I'm receiving the new cable modem tomorrow from Comcast, so I'll do the switch then

Run far far away. This is not the Internet provider you are looking for. Starwars

"Run away where?" would be the question for many of us who don't have any viable alternatives in the area. Just about anyone would run off from Comcast if there was free and open competition, but in many parts of the U S., there isn't.

That's the problem, of course. The least evil is T-Mobile home wireless *if* you have a 5G tower nearby. Internet lookup. Better with no BS billing, as least. Technically cable/Fiber(partly) can be faster; but the T-Mobile thing with 5G is still extremely fast. Faster than most sites and servers can send you data for download anyway. Good latency too; but best on Comie-cast for SOME gamer. Do the trial things and you'll know. Folks are no having issues unless the cut it off and don't send back the device. And if you use a bunch of Ethernet connected computers then just put the T-Mobie thing into your separate router first. You prob wan the latest router/WiFi anyway.

And if no other choice I SERIOUSLY and highly recommend NOTHING if it saves you from Xfinity.

I just signed up again and got the emails. But when I chatted they said they cannot transfer the MAC address because the existing account has still active service. I was transferred from a billing rep, to a service rep and then after a lot of back and forth to a new customer sales rep. I ended the chat and said I will try another day because I have other commitments.
Did you make a special request or just requested to transfer MAC# from old account ID# to new account ID#? That was my simple and easy request I had put in.
Thanks! Smilie

What a hassle they made you go through!

I only asked the first chat guy to do the MAC transfer, and he cheerfully obliged. The new service kicked in shortly thereafter. The chat agent clearly handled this before as he asked no questions and just went ahead with the action.

OK, I will give it another try with another agent tomorrow as the old account should be cancelled today. Smilie The agent took forever and probably had to read internal documents or got help and probably wasn't very familiar with it. At the end they transferred me to another department which is when I gave up as I didn't want to waste more time.
I can also power cycle the modem to see if this helps.

"My" agent right away saw that one service was earmarked to be canceled and a new service was waiting to be activated. I am assuming that any chat agent can see the same information on your account. If so, it should be an easy copy and paste of the MAC #. My guess, too, is that the guy you unfortunately had to deal with lacked the experience and didn't know how to proceed.

I just went into the app and activated my "new" modem by entering the MAC address. This might have done it because I can no longer access my old account. Smilie Just need to find out how to pay the bill on the old account. Smilie

Sorry, wrong, I can still switch accounts.
