Note this drive is QLC so it drops to slower speeds pretty quickly. I went with sandisk and samsung instead because of this.

Not a bad price for ssd external storage, but I have to talk myself out of it. I already have a nvme enclosure, and a 2tb nvme can be had for $65. If I didn't already have that enclosure this slower drive would be worth it!

Okay.... I have to point out how hilarious I find it that this external SSD has read speeds of 800MB/sec and is cheaper than Crucial's own MX500 4TB SATA SSD with only 560MB/sec read speeds @ Best Buy.

Now that's just weird.

The speed limitation is due to the connection. SATA III is the bottleneck. The MX500 is also TLC (vs this QLC) and has DRAM so it maintains write speeds far longer than this external and should have a longer lifespan

This will only play backwards compatible titles on both Xbox and PS5. Whereas a Gen 4 nvme installed in PS5 will play anything, just like the internal drive.

Doesn't matter. Both are bottlenecked by the USB port. I use an NVME in an enclosure because it was cheaper than an external SSD at the time, but it's no faster.

I regret buying from bestbuy even though i had the 20$ back off 150

they shipped this with some shipt service, driver picked it up at 11am, its almost 530pm and no clue if I will get the package today since its just says "shopper has been assigned"

How long can this retain data on it in powered off/disconnected state. Thinking of using this for cold data backup but with drive powered off I wonder how quick would flash lose the voltage levels or how frequently would the bits need to be refreshed

These are great drives, I think out of the 15 drives I've ordered from Crucial over the past 10 years, only one came to me dead on arrival and they quickly replaced it.

One thing to note here, these X4 and X6 drives only have a 60GB cache, meaning you will see fast transfer speeds up to 60 GB, and then it trickles to very very slow speeds as it moves the data from the filled-up cache to the SSD chips inside.
