Is this any better than the Ryobi that sometimes goes down to $69? It's already failing on me.

I own this model. If you are using this for your profession I would recommend a more robust unit. I use mine a lot and it gets strapped, standing up on the wall of my trailer. The braces that hold the sliding rails is made of plastic, and mine broke.

I purchased a ryobi and returned it and got the ridgid instead. If you don't plan on bringing this everywhere I think the ryobi for lower pricing is fine as it is heavy as it is made from steel tubings. However, the ridgid has Wheels, can stand vertical on its own and is made of a lighter aluminum frame. From a Diyer stand point, I'd pick this over the ryobi even with the additional cost. Not sure how well it would hold up for the commercial folks though.

Funny that all of the images of this stand in use aren't actually this stand - they're the other two Ridgid stands.

That said - I've got the bigger scissor-folding version, and it's amazingly easy to use, but HUGE. I'm thinking I might get this instead and sell the behemoth.

I switched from this small one TO the larger scissor-folder version (RIDGID Foldable Mobile Miter Saw Stand). If you are planing on having it setup and leaving it in one place, get this one. If you have it folded up when you don't use it and pull it out when you do, then get the bigger Foldable Mobile Miter Saw Stand. If you leave your saw attached to it, this unit is a pain to open up and store since you can't store it vertically without extra support. The Foldable Mobile Miter Saw Stand can be stored vertically (even with the Bosch 12" sliding miter saw mounted), and is a breeze to open and close and to move.
I'm so glad I made the move, just wait until the Foldable one is on sale (I got it when it was $140).
