You've earned my trust... please recommend to me something better at $500. Thank you.
Isn't that kind of the point being made, over inflated markups on anything $500+ in this current gen. It's not about who to trust, if you can't see this gen as the bad deal it is, buy away.

I might have missed the answer to my first request... but I won't let that stop me from adding another... what innovation/market condition are you waiting for that will yield a greater value proposition at that price point?
Do they not trade blows depending on the game, yet the 4070 has better RT, less power draw, AV1 encoding, and DLSS 3.0? While basically the 6800xt has 16gb vram and potentially a free game?

You're good, you don't need a response. If you're looking for innovation it isn't here. Nor is the pricing/market condition. When the GPU costs more than your CPU/motherboard/RAM combined. Something is off there. There is no recommendation because there isn't anything of value at this time.

So no recommendation, and no indicator of a meaningful change on the horizon. Check...
This gen is such a let down from both AMD and Nvidia so far. Either way to expensive or gimped cards. How Nvidia thought going from $700 for the 3080 to $1200 for the 4080 was a good idea is beyond me. Or the fact they want to cheap out with vram on there cards is just crazy. AMD might bring some hope back into the market if they price the 7800 and 7700 accordingly but I think everyone has written this gen off and are looking forward to next gen next fall.
AMD isn't going to do jack.
They always price their cards like 10% less than Nvidia. Which is stupid, because most people are better off just buying the Nvidia equivalent at that point.
I upgraded my i7-10700 build from a 1070 to a 4070 I found on ebay for $500 and I love it!
Just played Rachet and clank at 1440p with ray tracing and it looks great, was able to get frame rates between 140-160 on my 165hz monitor.

6800 xt on sale
Good news is if you buy a 4090 it seems like it will be the top card until sometime in 2025 when the 50 series is scheduled to release. ymmv
I wish but even the GTX1080s did not reach this price until "they" started to clear inventory.
