Additionally, even for those for whom microcenter is not an option, the 7900x has gone on better sales previously at both ebay ($330 for the 7900x from antonline via eBay) and best buy ($469.98 for the 7900x bundled with the gigabyte b650 aorus elite ax motherboard). Considering intel 14th gen should be releasing within the next few months, and we're approaching back to school and holiday season, I would wait until prices at least match those previous deals before purchasing.

Not true. Eventually you die.

They mysteriously sold out of all 15 bundles in a few minutes at my Fairfax Mc. Haven't figured out if I driving up to Rockville...
Just holding out on another deal perhaps comparable or better to the recent deals at Best Buy since Micro Center isn't an option, a reasonable price on a decent 7000 series processor with a decent B650 or X670 board, since the lowest total cost of the hardware seems to be found when purchased in a bundle as of late. If not, a deal on each component independently at a low enough price point would be sufficient.

For example, a $650 CPU that performs "mid" with its peers is one thing, but when that same CPU is $350? That makes things really different.
I don't see Steve, Jay, Linus, and the rest updating their reviews when components go on sale

Oh well, everything always gets cheaper AFTER you've bought it. As a wise salesman advised me when I was fretting over my first computer purchase and how faster/cheaper stuff was always just about to arrive, "Tech is like a river; something better is always upstream, but eventually you're just going to have to jump in."
I just wish ASUS would get their [crap] together with their BIOSes. When they finally pushed a BIOS that actually fixed the SoC overvoltage thing that was frying CPUs and boards (previous versions said it was fixed, but didn't for me), it made my rig so unstable that it would take 3-4 tries to boot it sometimes, Windows would BSOD, and it'd even freeze in the BIOS. Finally went back to the last non-beta release and manually locked the SoC to 1.25V and it's never failed to boot. So dumb. There's a new beta with the new AGESA version, but I'll wait.
Even if they actually are out of stock, you might be able to negotiate a different set of RAM. It might not be as good, but it could still make the deal worth it. YMMV.

Thank you that may explain it, I'll try to swing by tomorrow, it's a hike so was hoping to not waste a trip, but my 3yr old Alienware died last week and this post have me the itch
Having the 'Payboo' card from B&H to avoid taxes was the final icing on the cake for me, just enough to tempt me to say eff it and get it now, versus holding out hell who knows how long on an inevitable or potentially nonexistent better deal.
Now I just need to decide on a mobo.. torn between the MSI PRO PRO X670-P, ASRock X670E PRO RS and GIGABYTE X670 AORUS ELITE AX. I'll need something with plenty of SATA ports, lots of USB ports, free PCIe slots, and the more NVMe slots the better, to accommodate my data hoarding / plex server and all 22 drives I currently have, while leaving room for later expansion. Foremost, I need something reliable, that's going to run the 7900X without issue, ideally something I can overclock at least somewhat (e.g. adequate power + VRM cooling) if possible, that I'm not going to regret later due to having limited options for expansion. A PCIe 5.0 slot would be a nice added bonus (e.g. X670E), but entirely optional, for a potential next-gen GPU upgrade.
MSI PRO PRO X670-P ($200) = 4 PCIe slots, 6 SATA ports, 4 NVMe slots, but only 6 USB ports and no PCIe 5.0 for GPU
ASRock X670E PRO RS ($270) = 6 SATA ports, 9 USB ports, and (the most) 5 NVMe lots, and PCIe 5.0 slot for the GPU, but only 3 PCIe slots total and least impressive vcore/VRM performance.
GIGABYTE X670 AORUS ELITE AX ($270) = lots of (12) USB ports and by far the best for overclocking out of the three, but only 4 SATA ports, 3 PCIe slots and no PCIe 5.0.
I have a 10-port PCIe SATA controller and 4-port PCIe USB adapter requiring a PCIe slot each to accommodate. I'll need at least 11 USB ports in total, including kb+mouse, so may not need the USB adapter for the AORUS board freeing up one slot.
I'm leaning toward the ASRock board currently, for expandability and future upgrades, or the Gigabyte AUORUS for sheer performance, likely the former since I probably won't overclock it much or need to realistically.
