Down side to Sens headphone is sound stage, they are more intimate/close to you but I love to listen to vocal focus tracks with them. An upgrade to this line is the HD800s which have very well rounded sound signature. These Sen headphone are normally 300ohm impedance.
The second type/set has to be planar, i have in mind Hifiman Edition XS at $450 which has phenomenal value. Planar headphones are well known for their sound stages and better bass however their lifespan is quite questionable due to how the tech they use. An upgrade to this line is the Hifiman Arya Stealth Magnet edition at new low price $1K. Their New release is Arya Organic at $1300. These headphone normally under 100ohm impedance but by no mean easy to drive
IEM or in ear monitor headphone also good alt to get into planar headphone too just beware of the price to value and comfort scales. Some good IEM cost $50 to $100 are just as good as those that are $1000+.
Another line to research is Focal Clear $900, Meze audio 109 Pro $800
A few very good amp/dac combo that offer phenomenal values for those just starting this journey cost about $200 -$300 such as Topping DX3 Pro plus at $199. , Shiit Magni3 amp and Modi 3 dac stack for $220, or JDS lab atom stack for about same price.
If you have macbook M1 pro, or any of the M2 macbook and mini line, they have build in high impedance 3.5mm headphone jack already that can give you a good taste of these headphone without investing into dedicated amp/dac to make them shine.
Ps 2 am for me so plz ignore the wall of text etc and the dream headphone system is HE-1 at $60,000…..mega lottery anyone?

I do have a pair of HD598s (the original brown and ivory ones) paired with a couple of very cheap, but surprisingly clean, little amps that boost bass. One of them is from a slickdeals about 10 years ago, in which I paid $16 and is made by Brainwavz. It's tiny and super portable. Unfortunately it is no longer made, or even available used on ebay, or I would definitely recommend it. The other is one I bought more recently from Amazon, and will include a link if they're still available. They were $25 and have a bass switch. They provide quite a bit of deep, crisp bass. I suffer no rumbling or boomy bass. However, there is a slight bit of loss in the treble and upper mid. I'm saying all this in case you have a set of phones that sound great, like the HD598s, but lack bass.

And it's Amazon, so you can easily return it if you don't like it. If anyone knows where to get one of the Brainwavz amps, please let me know. I'd like a spare.
