I have canceled Subscribe & Save items dozens of times after the first shipment in the past (I can't stand the random pricing, and don't want to order things I don't need), so I wonder that has anything to do with it.
Any info on this would be appreciated; I don't have the patience to try to work with Amazon to figure this out.
I do agree with you that Amazon is generally very good when it comes to accepting refund requests and processing them without question. I've never had a bad experience with customer service, so it is funny you seem to think I have a problem with them. FWIW the reason I canceled my membership had more to do with an increase in damaged items received (particularly S&S items which were poorly packed), changes to the Prime music program and Amazon for some reason never explained to me why they deleted my material in Amazon Photos and Amazon Drive. The increase in the fee was contributory, but not a main factor. Finally, it's hard to compare Amazon with Walmart, but when it comes to deliveries (timely and in perfect condition) I have found Walmart to be head and shoulders above Amazon. I still get small S&S monthly shipments, and occasionally purchase sale items, mostly those that are posted here on Slickdeals. Boycotting them never entered my mind but I don't think I will be a Prime member again.

But you are correct in feeling their service has degraded over time. I too have the issues with poorly packed orders, especially S&S. This last month was the first in several months that did not have something damaged and refunded. It did have two shipments that showed up two days late. It is funny that I pay for two day shipping and nearly half my orders show up late. I could blame the carriers, they are a mess in Philly, but somehow almost all orders from Walmart or Target show up in two days even though they are not charging for it or guaranteeing it. I wonder if UPS and USPS are not Amazon fans.
If you can click through the website to correct a problem, it is usually easy. If you have to call them though, it is a pain. The last few calls I made took over an hour and I had difficulty finding someone who even understood the problem. Also have had problems when returns were supposed to be picked up and I ended up having to walk them to a UPS store a couple miles away. The last one was a carpet shampooer that was bought new but quite obviously was shipped to us used. The solution was opened, everything was wet and the box was not closed completely(was assembled when repacked and should not have been) but taped shut. That was fun walking twenty or so blocks on my shoulder when it is 95 degrees.
So, yeah, you can get some great deals on Amazon still. But like most things these days, they are not what they used to be.
My apologies for ranting. I must be in a mood.
