One reason...3800 has Audyssey xt32 which is a big jump over the Audyssey version in the 2800.

Yea, that's too rich for my blood these days. $700 for the full version including the sub is beyond what I'll pay. I see the value in it for a serious home theater with $10K+ of hardware, but not my living room. It sounds like the Onkyo implementation is the non subwoofer version of the software. I wonder how that compares with Audyssey X32?

Worked for me. Make sure you're not adding an X3800H "bundle" with headphones by mistake. It won't work for that.

It depends who you ask but many say they are happy without DLBC.

If you are comfortable manually calibrating your sub(s), you may find it can be good enough.

In my case, the only reason I'm considering paying for the X3800H over the x2800H is the better Audyssey room calibration, primarily at the lower end. Nothing else the amp offers will be necessary for my setup. I'll never get approval to add 9 speakers in my living room from my wife, and if I'm being honest, I wouldn't do it anyway. I now value the aesthetics of the room more than I used to.

I will assume you're talking about MultEQ-X, no it is not transferable.

If you buy this, but it for what you need and not anything to do with 8k. By the time 8k rolls around this will be at least a couple years old, and then there will be never models you'll want. I honestly don't believe in the idea of future proofing when it comes to AVRs as everything is in a constant state of flux.

Additionally ...you will need a calibration mic that is about $150 for Dirac
In a nutshell you are adding almost $1000 to the cost of a Denon/Marantz product for the full suite of Dirac

As I said before..if you want Dirac in the mid tier products there are better options

If you havent already made a buying decision you might test the Onkyo RZ50
The room correction system may be more to your liking.

To eliminate the inevitable confirmation bias, make a video where all the AVR's have all their sound enhancements set to off and all controls to flat and do a blind test. Doubt most people would be able to tell one from the other when it comes to mass market AVR's in the same price//feature class.
