FYI, same discount code is also good for $700 off the X3800H (drops from $1700 to $1000).

Bro I bought the receivers with my money for what works best for me. Not some troll on internet who has a Denon and wants to feel good about his purchase.

One reason...3800 has Audyssey xt32 which is a big jump over the Audyssey version in the 2800.

Dirac divides it's Room Correction algorithms in two.

Dirac Live for loud speakers & Dirac Live Bass Control(DLBC) for subwoofers.

Dirac Live is divided in two offerings:
Limited Bandwidth(20Hz-500Hz) for $259
Full Bandwidth for $349(or $99 more from Limited).

Dirac Live Bass Control(DLBC) is also divided in two offerings:
DLBC-Single Subwoofer for $349
DLBC-Multi Subwoofer for $499(or $169 more from single)
Additionally there is the $150 ish calibration microphone needed for Dirac if you are using a Denon/Marantz product

Many Dirac equipped brands are also have multiple memory slots for calibration results as well as preset curves...such as the Harman curve for brands owned by Harman International

To eliminate the inevitable confirmation bias, make a video where all the AVR's have all their sound enhancements set to off and all controls to flat and do a blind test. Doubt most people would be able to tell one from the other when it comes to mass market AVR's in the same price//feature class.
I would agree with you for the most part in this class of AVR

However...his comparisons , according to his statement, were with room corrected enacted.

Maybe I missed it (I looked through previous comments), but what are you recommending with full Dirac with bass control in the mid tier products? I'm thinking this might have to be a year or two down the line, although I can imagine they will keep the full Dirac in the top tier products for the foreseeable future to maximize profitability.

If only Denons amplifier section was a bit more hardy. The wattage has fine but throw 4 ohm speakers at it and it's gonna shut off
Very blanket statement…any 4ohm speaker that will shut off this denon would shut off most avrs

Additionally ...you will need a calibration mic that is about $150 for Dirac
In a nutshell you are adding almost $1000 to the cost of a Denon/Marantz product for the full suite of Dirac

As I said before..if you want Dirac in the mid tier products there are better options

You can regularly find a mic for around $100 and Audyssey has presets also(3800 has 4) especially if you use MultiEQ-X.

If you want the "full suite"(DL & DLBC) of Dirac now you would have to go with the new Onkyo/Pioneer which starts at $2799 BUT you still have to purchase DLBC for $500 on top of that.

Come next year the 3800 will give you the "full suite" of Dirac.
$999(3800) + $349(DL)+$500(DLBC)+$100(Mic),nothing will come close to that.

If you havent already made a buying decision you might test the Onkyo RZ50
The room correction system may be more to your liking.
I Pioneer LX305 has Dirac and should sound similar to Onkyo RZ50 albeit without pre outs. Right now I am sticking with Marantz SR7015 but leaning to change it to Marantz Cinema 50 by thanksgiving. In the end none of them are perfect, Denon is pretty good in user interface, features, build quality, but Denon sound is too bright to my liking.

Where can I find that mic for $100( the one Dirac recommends..The Umik-1)?

You are talking full MSRP of the Onkyo/Pioneer units....street price I can guarantee will be less than MSRP, such as the X3800 is now
We also dont know how the amp/power supply sections of those units will test...if I were a betting man I would say they will outbench the X3800

So a little bit of apples and oranges there mixed in with several unknowns.

I did this, all AVR's are set to Pure Direct. And while there is no confirmation bias, like all things there is subjectivity. It's impossible to bring my taste into the equation. But Denon has better instrument separation, you hear more instruments, it's just a bit bright to "my" liking. I couldn't stand it for long hours of listening.

I own the Marantz 7015....to my ears it sounds like one of the Denons I have owned

To my ears, Dirac is a much better sounding room correction system than Audyssey
So good in fact, that I went out and bought a 2nd Dirac equipped unit
First Dirac equipped unit replaced a Marantz pre/pro and the 2nd replaced a Denon receiver

Don't disagree with you. If you hear all amplifiers in isolation I would probably draw same conclusions. But without any room correction when you play same song in same room with same speakers…. They don't sound the same and shouldn't. They have different DAC's and that would determine how they sound. If they all sound the same then apart from features and wattage nothing should separate them. But AVR's do color the sound, the Pioneer and Onkyo's tend to be warmer but less detail, the Denon sprightly and alive. The Marantz is more neutral but you get less details compared to Denon.

"there is no confirmation bias"

You're human (I assume), therefore there is confirmation bias.

These mainstream AVR's sound identical with all controls set flat.

You said you did the blind testing video? Link?

If they use the same audyssey, they should still sound the same, although I can see there being a slight variability with Audyssey runs (I doubt any two runs on the same device would yield exactly the same "corrections".

I said I am subjective and what works for me may not work for you. I also said that there is no confirmation bias as I had nothing against Denon when I bought the unit. It's not like I wanted to not like it and confirmed my opinion by testing it. Confirmation bias and subjectivity are two different things. And yes the last I checked, I was "human" 😀

Cool. What was your blind testing methodology?
