Just returned two of these for $850. The trash CPU lock itself in 25w easily and even in the most desired situation it ran at 50. If you let the windows 10 install all the drivers itself the cpu will constantly lock itself at 2.0ghz all core and around 7000 cinebench r23. Yes, 7000, which is half of a 12700h in a light thin laptop. If you can install drivers one by one from HP and knows how to do so, you have 3.0ghz all core, at 55w, and 13000-15000 cb r23. But this is only the cpu. When you run both the cpu and gpu, like in timespy, the cpu part is just like 7000 (normal 12700H in Lenovo slim 7 pro is at 12000, 12900H in zephyrus m16 is at 13500)
So the HP is doing stupid things here. It's too aggressive on watt controlling. The temperature is ok, I won't say good since it's far, far from the m1pro MacBook 16, but much better than zephyrus m16 which has 12900H and 3070ti for $870.
I have both of the same hp envy and they perform exactly the same. The 4060 has timespy 8500 and 9000 on two pc. It's in 3060's territory and overclocking, sadly won't do anything since it's power limited. Overclocking the rtx4060 to about +250 on core and +1250 on vram gave me 10k on timespy for one and 8k, which is even less on timespy for the other one.

I would definitely still take it at $850...This is still a steal at that price. $1200 knowing everything you said, probably not.

Had this, impeccable build quality. You can get the Timespy up to 11.5-11.8k with some tweaking. The HP tuning software isn't very good though. If you put in dual 16GB DDR5 5200 with fast timings, I was able to push the CPU Timespy up to 13.5k.

What made me return it is the lack of USB-C charging while on. So stupid it can only do it while off and sometimes when sleeping. Also be careful removing bottom plate for upgrades, it has dual NVME slots but getting the panel off is very tricky and very easy to slightly bend it a tiny bit out of shape causing a small permanent gap.

Why are you using Windows 10 on a 13th gen Intel CPU? There are many known performance issues with Windows 10 due to the use of P cores and E cores.

Windows 11 does not have these issues.

This crap is exactly why I returned it and just got a gaming laptop, zephyrus m16 is one of the only 16 inch thin and light I'd get so much better than this shit, and this ones super heavy too lmao heavier than my new strix g16 it's sad how much hp screwed up a pretty good formula

Hp is so dumb with the usb c pd, I have a 140w charger and it just refuses to accept it wtf my brother legion 5 pro which has a 300w brick can use it perfectly even at 100w it charges fery fast

You sound unhinged.

I'm a software engineer and have had this beast for about a week and change. It is AMAZING and you can even disable the GPU and the integrated graphics on the i9 can push 2x 1440p@165Hz screens and the built-in one at 120Hz simultaneously like that without flinching.

This thing TANKS and is so resilient that now instead of deploying code to our testing server, I paid for a static IP and have everyone in our office in another state just routing to my laptop to test the code I'm working on.

Absolutely sick laptop... but priced at < $1400.... laptop of the year

On top of all that, it games like a champion as long as you keep all of the intakes and outtakes unblocked

Only cons I've hit:
Power adapter connector doesn't snap into place, so if you move the laptop a little bit it can become slightly loose, super annoying and hoping it's just my unit

Keyboard is decent, but not fantastic. I think some people will like it more than I do. The complaints about the backlight color and key marker color are wrong though, it looks nice

The ports mostly being on the right side is asinine, but only for *this* amaze of an overall laptop would I overlook that, so I do

It's good for most people, but just know that unless you modified it, it is running about half of its potential and designed speed. I'm an EE, and this is a very poorly designed laptop. They slapped in a very fast CPU and then throttled it to run at half the speed and 1/3 Intel's recommended power limits.

I do tend to suspend the body of laptops I use to achieve perfect airflow, sometimes w/ a book under the back end elevating it like a ramp, other times suspending it between a coffee table and a couch so the entire bottom is floating, I wonder if that makes a huge difference. I wouldn't even call it loud while I'm gaming at 1600p@120Hz on it w/ high settings

Or, is it possible you got a defective unit?
