Just got this PM'd at target. Showed them the Costco webpage with the price. Pretty nice price with the 5% off too.

Not sure what you're seeing but Kodi itself is absolutely free and works perfectly on every platform I've tried it on. The only issue (which I'm guessing will be resolved soon) is that even the latest build 21 doesn't play DolbyVision videos on my new U7K TV. Plays fine on my U8H so I'm sure it's just a codec thing. It plays every single other format and resolution with zero issues, including Atmos audio. I took a quick look at Infuse just then, installed on my phone, it picked up my Jellyfin home server perfectly and listed all the media but I tried a couple of files and it immediate prompts to pay for pro access.

Does anyone know if there is any media center that is free and file/folder based for AppleTV, ie similar to Kodi? Also, I just read this old Reddit post and I'm not holding out much hope. https://www.reddit.com/r/appletv/..._vlc_that/
Check the Infuse app. I use it on my ATV. Plays all formats and just works.

Did you price match in store or online chat?

Edit: After juggling between Target and BB online chats, someone finally budged and priced matched at BestBuy.

Reread my post. It's pay. Plus apparently nothing on tvos does audio pass thru and infuse doesn't support Dolby Vision either.

Same - four different reps at Target would not PM, but got BB to PM on my second rep through chat. Would have bought from Costco had I not dilly dallied but BB is just as good a deal after getting some discounted GCs.

VLC is folder based, if I'm understanding you correctly. You share folders using samba share and play content directly.

Jellyfin and plex have working apps as well. You can side load kodi I believe but then it get dicey having to resign. That's a whole- other ordeal.

If you prefer more open platform I suggest you stick to google tv / android tv devices.

Most of my fam don't need that so Apple TVs work well for them.

I make due with an Apple TV most of the time. Sometimes I want to do more techie stuff and use my NVIDIA shield or firsticks for that.

Yep - Target was a stickler with all four reps and BB first rep was as well but the second rep didn't care and PM right away. YMMV.

Mine didn't carry it and it sold out online while I was checking. Should have just bought it. 😭
You can still buy it from Costco. I used the mobile app. Shows OOS on the product page but if you just search for Apple TV then on the search results page it'll let you add the product directly to cart and check out. I did that yesterday, got shipping confirmation today with UPS tracking #

Honest question — what is the main value of getting this when one already has a smart TV (LG OLED C9) with Apple TV, AirPlay 2 ability, and various other popular apps?

I'm genuinely curious for the experiences of folks in a similar situation.
The user experience is much better on the Apple TV. I've owned each generation of the Apple TV 4K. I'm currently in the process of selling my two original models since I upgraded to the 2nd Gen Apple TV 4K and the 3rd Gen Apple TV 4K. A lot of smart TVs will lose app support as they age. For instance when HBO MAX rebranded to Max, I wasn't able to download and install Max. I had a 2nd Gen Apple TV 4K, and now I use that for all of my content. LG also doesn't have the Spectrum TV app so that's another benefit of the Apple TV.

I also have the latest Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen) on my S95B and QN90B. Tizen is absolutely horrible, and I hate how Samsung forces updates even when you have auto updates turned off. The latest Apple TV 4K also supports HDR10+ if apps support it. With an Apple TV device, you can take your TV offline and let the Apple TV do the rest.

If you have multiple Apple TVs, you can sync your Home Screen so the interftis always the same. You'll have to sign into the new apps on your new Apple TV during setup. After that, you're good to.

I always recommend Apple TV 4K devices. If you can find a better deal on the 2nd Gen version then I would go with that, but this deal was hard to pass up when the original MSRP was $149.99.

Tried that many times. It just shows "Item 1707318 is out of stock or unavailable to order" when you click "Add" to add it to your Cart.

Sounds like they fixed something in the app.

I did PM at target in store. BB chats were waste of time. everytime they said that the product on Costco.com is Out of Stock and that they cannot PM if that's the case.. if Costco had it in stock, why would I go BB?
