It looks like they are expected to ship between
09/04/23 - 09/15/23. Once shipped you should be
notified and provided with tracking."
What the Costco online support wrote in regards to backorders on the Apple TV 4k. For reference my original eta was August 25th.

Does anyone know if there is any media center that is free and file/folder based for AppleTV, ie similar to Kodi? Also, I just read this old Reddit post and I'm not holding out much hope. https://www.reddit.com/r/appletv/..._vlc_that/
Edit: After juggling between Target and BB online chats, someone finally budged and priced matched at BestBuy.
Well hopefully it comes back in stock online.

Jellyfin and plex have working apps as well. You can side load kodi I believe but then it get dicey having to resign. That's a whole- other ordeal.
If you prefer more open platform I suggest you stick to google tv / android tv devices.
Most of my fam don't need that so Apple TVs work well for them.
I make due with an Apple TV most of the time. Sometimes I want to do more techie stuff and use my NVIDIA shield or firsticks for that.

I'm genuinely curious for the experiences of folks in a similar situation.
I also have the latest Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen) on my S95B and QN90B. Tizen is absolutely horrible, and I hate how Samsung forces updates even when you have auto updates turned off. The latest Apple TV 4K also supports HDR10+ if apps support it. With an Apple TV device, you can take your TV offline and let the Apple TV do the rest.
If you have multiple Apple TVs, you can sync your Home Screen so the interftis always the same. You'll have to sign into the new apps on your new Apple TV during setup. After that, you're good to.
I always recommend Apple TV 4K devices. If you can find a better deal on the 2nd Gen version then I would go with that, but this deal was hard to pass up when the original MSRP was $149.99.
