If you've got a lot of spare time and have an expensive trip planned next year, you could book a very short same-day roundtrip to get companion pass for the more expensive trip. For example, if you lived in Denver, you could fly to Colorado Springs and back for $133 and then use the BOGO next year on a $500 roundtrip. Certainly wouldn't be worthwhile for everyone, but might be worth thinking about for some of you.

I was wondering the same thing, but checking the promotion rules it's clear you have to take the flight.

There is no benefit to booking through your travel portal. SW rarely discounts their rates for 3rd parties.

EDIT: Southwest probably hates customers like me. went back, cancelled the new flight, refunded to card, then booked the new flight the with credit from the original flight LOL. I'm good to go.

I did this promo last year with SW and it worked great! I booked LAS-SAN around 8am, then SAN-LAS around 10am round trip. So I literally landed in San Diego and walked 3 gates over and got back on the flight to Vegas. Took about 5 hours out of my life and $88 total. Got the Companion pass in January and did 2 flights to mexico with my companion, saving around $350 each flight.

Just found another one for $82 R/T, so now I have to start looking around for nice flights in Jan-March. Wink

I am traveling in September. If I buy a flight for October, does the September flight count as 'travel in september' but the october flight counts as 'buy the flight by August 30"? It doenst say 'Buy a flight FOR September" but buy a flight, and also, fly in September.

I cant stand SW. I'll pass on the BOGO AND pay more for a ticket just to never use them. Hope they dont cancel any more flights due to weather either, even though the sun is out and the sky is clear.

I did exactly that in one of these previous promos. Worked without issue. It only requires one paid round-trip or two one-way flights. Doesn't matter if you have a companion on those flights or not.
