Roughly half of those negative reviews were people not reading the description complaining about accessories not being included or shipping issues. But the other half were people with legit issues of broken parts, DOA, dirty, etc...
I don't think its much to be concerned about . If you figure only 25% of people leave feedback when they have a positive experience and almost 100% leave it when they have bad experience it really doesnt scale out to be that bad for a "refurbished" product.
I also wonder how many of these are costco returns for people who got them for a hurricane, never used it, then returned them or people who only needed it for a day then returned it.
I remember seeing people returning these to costco after a hurricane scare a year or 2 ago and i asked if they would sell me one for a discount lol. I was told they send them right back to the manufacturer.

Just sharing the deal so people are aware it's out there. I purchased this one and don't care other than to spread the word & deal.

No idea how paranoia gets spread so easily.
Super dry climate/garage kept stuff isn't going to have the same outcomes as someone who stores stuff in an outdoor unsealed shed in a place with 85-100% humidity daily.
Also weird you say you left "same old gas in it" for 4 years (as if it sat for 4 years).
Mine also comes with a protective cover.

I bought this same refurbished unit and converted it to use Natural Gas.
Just replace the propane one?
Need bigger hose or just less power ? Thx
Thanks

You can also find them on eBay for about $10. They just don't have the auto off that the OEM has.
Just don't leave it on for more than a couple hours.
It needs to jump the two legs together. It will power all the 120VAC, but will not power any 240VAC circuits. To be safe, turn all the 240VAC circuit breakers off.
Edit: Pulled the trigger on this 3200/4000W after receiving a bad 2900/3200W unit.
Here's hoping this one's good - I'd kind of regretted not going for this dual fuel unit after it came up in the comments on the other deal. One thing I'm noticing after having had hands on the 2900W unit is that this WH03242 has protective boots over the power switches which suggests more robust construction.
The W02981 (2900W) feels pretty good overall though - especially considering the one I received was manufactured in early 2019, and clearly had gotten some sun based on the yellowing of some of the original stickers - most seem to have been replaced or were still like-new.

however I just ran it dry, changed the oil, added some sea foam to some fresh ethanol free gas, and should be set for another 2 years. these carbs on these things don't gum up nearly as bad or easily as people say. you have to wonder, if people are just quoting google, or actually had a carb gum up in such a short amount of time.
That said every state has different rules on ethanol in gas. In general you can't go over the limit but some states are more laxed. Ethanol is cheaper whole sale so the company made more money with higher percentages of Ethanol. Sometimes the mixers would have issues and feed too much ethanol. In some states its no big deal. you reset the system, see if the issue is resolved, if not you shut it down until a tech gets called out for some other issue or maintenance.
Some states have massive fines if the ethanol levels are even slightly over the limit. If there is any issue we just shut down the ethanol immediately. It changes the octane slightly so not great but better than paying the massive fines.
The point is just because you used ethanol gas doesn't mean you have a lot of ethanol in it. Sometimes you just get lucky and get all gas, which would have a lower octane but not enough to make a difference in small engines.
In dryer climates you can leave ethanol fuel in what ever for ever. But in more humid areas the fuel can slowly absorb moisture and cause corrosion or other issues. What works for you in your state/climate may not work for others.
