    I bought this for about this price last time it came up on slickdeals.

    I chose this instead of a bluetooth dongle for ease of use. I plugged it in, pressed a couple of buttons, it showed me the code. Took a picture of it with my phone. Then I cleared the code. Unplugged and done.

    I could have spent that long fiddling with the bluetooth, and getting it connected.

    No regrets, it did exactly what I needed.

    It's not fishy per se, it's just the free app has not been updated for the new devices. The paid version is available and not too pricy. I might spring for that.

    I have a p0305 (misfire cylinder 5) code that wont reset even if I disconnect the battery for a long time. I thought I fixed the problem but also driving 100+ miles won't clear it. The code suggests ignition coils or spark plugs, all replaced on a 2011 2.5 Jetta. What would keep the code on?

    If you have a laptop, there's plenty of free open source software available. That's what I primarily use any more, the few times/year I have to use it. If it's as code that sets off the engine light, I'm taking it to the dealership. If it's something that doesnt set off the engine light but something else is going wrong (i.e. car audio amp died and you cant hear radio, turn signal, etc out of the speakers any longer), then I'll see what error codes the car's computer is throwing out.

    I bought this product from Amazon at the same price a few years ago and never used it until recently. My car was serviced in a shop but their didn't reset the system. So, there was some light signaling something was not right. Instead of going back to the shop, I watched a youtube video and used this tool to reset the vehicle myself. The indicator light was off and the vehicle runs fine for the past few months.
