Will this connect to the router via WiFi or does it require an ethernet connection? How good is the Controller software and the Cloud Controller?

This is an access point and not a mesh system. Requires a direct ethernet connection to an existing router or separately purchased controller.

I believe you need at least one connected via Ethernet. Additional access points can be set up in mesh mode.

Very unfortunate design choice with this model, with the exposed Ethernet Jack on the side of the unit. Even with it being recessed, there's no practical way to mount this to a ceiling without the cable being visible from underneath. I was about to replace my EAP225 but changed my mind when I realized this. Love the EAP series but this was a real step backward in design.
