Hurry up guys, it won't last long. Then you'll have to wait until next month when it goes on sale for this price again...

I have this. Bought it for this price. Love it. I still find it suspicious that it's going for like 40% off of MSRP less than a year after it was released. Are not enough people paying to upgrade to Dirac so they gotta make it more tempting?

Btw, when I zoom my projector to cinemascope I can no longer see the volume OSD on screen, whether it's on top or bottom. My 2019 Denon had a bigger volume bar for the OSD and I didn't have this problem. I contacted Denon and they responded with boilerplate not helpful advice, so I have have to use the Denon app to change volume when I watch movies. 1st world problems for sure.
I mean, we're not, but I'll never say no to lower prices so that I can afford to buy more s__t.

I apologize for the potential that my comment has to detail the conversation. I am weak and take bait easily.
Wow, great price! Have this receiver, kinda makes me wished I waited but not really haha. I've been enjoying my 5.1.4 Atmos system. Only issue I have with this receiver is switching from one input to another, it loses HDMI handshake it seems. I have to power off the receiver to get the input back on. I should reach out to support about it. Other then that, really nice receiver.

Gotcha, do you have anything in mind to suggest? I've watched a lot reviews but none said about having speakers less that actual output power, they all sugges to use amplifier 🤔
You are gonna open a big rabbit hole!

If you like your current speakers no reason to switch.

Whether this would power them sufficiently depends on many factors not just sensitivity.

The max this AVR supports is 7.4.4 so I wonder how you're getting 9.1.4 or if that's a typo
Quote from hotwheeler69 :
How do you have 9.1.4?
I have this unit

stock is does
Channels
9.4
Object-Based Configuration: 5.4.4
With External Amplifier: 11.4
With External Amplifier: 7.4.4

I am running 9.4 known now as 7.4.2
will be going to 11.4 or known now 7.4.4 with extra amp
Def a typo! Meant 5.1.4 to give me 9 speakers.

What amplifier can you use to make it 7.2.4? Is it worth to have amplifier rather than a unit that can fully support 7.2.4 without additional hustle?
I use a cheap 2 channel class D amp to drive the rear surrounds in my 7.2.4 setup. Fosi V3 is good, but I got one of the Aiyima amps for $50.
I use another for zone 2.
So, for $100 I am able to drive 13 channels. AVRs that have 13 channels built in are $$$.

Then I would suggest concentrating on finding the speakers that sound really good to you 1st.
Listen to whatever you can to get an idea.

IMO most of your budget should go to speakers, after all they have the biggest influence on the sound you hear IMO.

If I have a 7 channel receiver which support 5.2.2, then I should be able to use an external amp and go for 5.2.4 ? Will it work for ATMOS with 4 speakers on the ceiling ?

If your current 7 channel receiver has 9 preouts(usually means can process 9 channels) then yes it should handle 4 in ceiling Atmos speakers with a two channel external amp.

If you're asking if this receiver can.
No need for an external amp it has 9 internal amps and can expand to 11 channels.

I'm really kicking myself for getting the openbox pioneer Elite vsx-305. I waited for a decent price on a 9 channel receiver and it doesn't even sound as good as my old 7 channel Onkyo rz-720, volume wise especially. And taking at least 10 seconds to switch between sources and constant black screens between apps and going out of menus sucks. That might be because it's an eARC receiver on a non arc tv, not sure. But the last one avr was HDMI 2.0 and I had no problems with black screens.

I'd have to check now but I updated it as soon as I took it out of the box and been having issues with it.

I keep getting so close to pulling the trigger on this then backing out as this isn't enough of an upgrade to my current setup to justify 1k, and I think it'll go lower when it's superseded by the next model.

Isn't fall about when we'd expect follow up models being announced, or is it not on consistent cadence?

That's where I'm at. The 4800 would be more of interest for me but that's not one Adorama has put on sale yet.

How come you have not edited and fixed your post?
Just did. Before I wasn't viewing it in the forum view point or whatever it's called and didn't see an option to edit it that way. Switched to it and of course it's there. Wonder why this forum does it this way not just always in forum mode.
