I have metal stakes that held a shed down. I've got the shed down but someone told me I needed a grinder saw. Is this a grinder saw ?

I have been wanting to grab one of these to replace my Ryobi. I am used to using one with the top mounted switch - how is the ergonomics of using one of these with the paddle? Is it easier to control or does using the paddle cause some loss of grip/stability when working with it?

Yes, you can put a metal cutoff wheel on this grinder and cut through metal.

But be careful. PLEASE wear safety goggles using a cutoff tool. Those things can fall apart on you and they go flying when they explode.

The "paddle" switch that this comes with seems pretty easy to operate to me, and it fits into a recess in the handle when depressed, so it doesn't really affect my grip. That said, if I were doing multiple hours worth of grinding, I'd want one with a lock-on switch. Not that you'll be doing hours of grinding with any battery powered grinder though. The bonus of a paddle switch like this though is safety — if you drop it, it just turns off. You'll need a zip-tie or something if you are into racing grinders.

Also noting this grinder comes with a 5" metal T27 guard, and a plastic clip-on T1 guard (it clips on to the T27 guard). Additionally, it comes with a regular nut and spanner, not the fancier "tool-less" FIXTEC nut that Milwaukee has.

This is quite a bit higher speed than most polishers at 8500 rpm. You'd have to be sure the buffer attachment and pad are rated for that.

This is definitely a Slickdeals with the battery. If you buy the tool only and get the battery for free, the battery is prorated to $88. You might as well get this bundle and have an extra battery on hand.
