How come this game has such horrible performance and CS2 looks way better IMO on some maps like the new Inferno and runs great even on older hardware? Must be badly optimized.
For example, the trees and plants in Starfield don't look very good at all.
I hate open world games. I just wish they'd make straight-forward games that don't feel like a job. The worst thing about open-world games is coming back to them after weeks and not knowing where to go, LOL.
Amazing game. Definitely buggy, but lovingly so, just like Skyrim and Fallout. No one does immersion like Bethesda. Can't wait for mods to come to Xbox.
This game got me back into PC gaming, loving it so far and have played maybe 40 ish hours. I agree with the others about the UI not being the best, particularly the maps (like no mini map of your immediate surroundings, even big starships can be a maze!), but another possible issue is how much it's going to cost you. I get decent FPS with a 3080 ti at 4K but I am definitely CPU bound as it's not a whole lot different if I drop it to 1080. So...I am now in the process of looking for an entirely new PC build because I want better performance. This obviously won't apply to everyone but if your someone who is running this on older hardware (8700k even with it at @ 5.2ghz) like me... You may find this game ultimately costs quite a bit more than the 55 bucks you pay for the key!
PC has always been the only way to play Bethesda games since Morrowind
Yep I remember playing Fallout 3 on my PS3 back in college dropping to 5 fps in certain areas when using a grenade launcher. Now i play it on my PC with 100 mods. Which is another reason to play on PC, Bethesda games have some of the best mods which you can't really get on console. ( I know there are plans to add mod support for Starfield on console in the future but you still are stuck having those routed through their creation software, way more flexibility on PC )

So it plays fine at 4k with your gpu? All the reviews say it runs around the 30s ~ 40s fps. If it's playable then I think I'll buy it now. I have the 3080 so it'll be a bit more worse.

I have the 4070 ti and it runs super smooth on max settings at 1440p @ 144Hz. Got me thinking I need to try it on my 4K TV and see if it tanks. Supposedly not a great 4K card, so perhaps similar to the 3080?
Edit: tested it on 4K at 120Hz and yup, ended up being CPU bound while the GPU was at like 50%. Around 45-60 FPS. Changed the output to the TV to ~2K and I was then maxing the GPU with around 55-80 FPS. Makes me think I should lower the settings on my 2K monitor to get FPS around 120 to match the refresh rate of the monitor. I guess this is where DLSS would help me?

Most annoying thing for me is the image is washed out, the blacks are gray. Very disappointing playing on my OLED TV and monitor. There better be a fix on this
Getting smooth frames playing on High on a 5800x3d and 6950xt system though
If you got Win11, Turn on AutoHDR in display settings.

I've played with the settings quite a bit and have landed on what I think is a good mix of quality vs performance. That gets me anywhere between 25-85 FPS, with less that 40 being in the heavily populated areas outdoors. I would normally not be ok with that but the actual missions where you are shooting at enemies or sneaking around are always inside or less populated, so there I get the higher 40-85.
I also installed the DLSS mod and that helps visuals a good bit for RTX cards.

game is pretty boring imo, just press a few buttons and get a cutscene from taking off to landing/docking
i am about 40% through the main campaign and I think ive only docked to 2x diff spacestations, but their layout was exactly the same
i was hoping this had dog fighting like wing commander back in the day, but there is no radar all you get is a circle with red triangles
the enemy AI is really dumb, they have no strategy and will just walk into line of fire and dont take cover, there are no bosses and im 40% through the game and finally found 1 "boss" and spent like 30 mins trying to kill him - got his health to 0 and then the boss disappears, I then google why, and the answer was your not supposed to fight him and just run.....
They should improve on the dog fighting in the air, I feel it doesnt even match up to pc games made in the 90s
oh and the pc version is VERY buggy, ive had to restart at least 5x already cuz the mission wont let me advance after and need to replay the level

I get why people are mad at this game, it was overhyped, over promised, has the Bethesda flaws and bugs, no DLSS and AMD performance bias. No PlayStation port, etc. But honestly it's a really good game. If I put it in front of someone who never heard of the game or Bethesda or no man's sky or Baldur's gate 3 or whatever you want to say is better, I think that person would really enjoy the game, and isn't that all that matters?
