Do you immediately get the $300 travel credit/coupon or is that after the first year? Seems like they charge the $395 in the first year so I'm just wondering if it's offset by more than just the 90,000 initial bonus.
The annual fee hits in your first billing cycle, which is pretty standard. The $300 credit is now essentially a coupon you use towards any purchase through the Capital One portal, and is available pretty much after you open your account. I just opened my account and I already have the $300 credit available. The bonus 10,000 miles hits every year on your anniversary, not in the first year. The coupon/credit is essentially 'use it or lose it' on a yearly basis, but the annual bonus miles can be retained and stacked up. For me it's easy value in year one because I plan to use the $300 for a trip in the Spring, and I get 2x miles on every purchase, so it's a great catch-all card, in addition to the benefits. On top of that, I'm getting Global Entry for my international travel, so that's another $100 credit, so in essence, I'm already $5 ahead on the card that I've only had open for a few weeks.

Hope that helps!

Credit utilization would immediately increase upon the account close and this is valued just higher than credit history. Unless you specifically calculated it to a tee, it's quite likely that the score went down before it went up.
while that is true...
it has negligible amount of impact if you have good track record.
my average score is 835, close or open an account will move that amount by maybe 5 points max before it rebound.
and i have closed no less than 15 accounts.

now.. the biggest reason to choose this card is if you and your partner travel at all. while the priority lounge has gone down hill, it still good to have, and this card allows you to add up to 5 (i think 5) authorized users free of charge. and each AU has their own priority pass.

Taking into account that you receive a $300 travel credit and 10,000 points annually, you come out even with just those two.
Is the $300 travel credit available as soon as we open the card is it available only after the one year anniversary?

Careful with this.
The $300 travel credit may sound impressive, but you have to use it by booking with their third party travel agency.

Anyone who has traveled a lot knows that this is just asking for trouble!
If there are any flight irregularities, you're generally screwed, because the airline basically tells you to GFY and deal with the travel agency where you bought the ticket, and the travel agency reps in who-knows-where are often just not empowered to actually help you rebook.

And for third party hotel bookings, they're a bit less risky, but you also generally forfeit any hotel points and status benefits.

So in the end, friends generally don't let friends book travel with agencies, making this card not that great of a deal unfortunately.

100% true!!
I learnt it the hard way after having to cancel/change multiple bookings during Covid times. I had airlines tell me that change fee is $0 but CapitalOne portal charge $300 fee

Is there a fee for an authorized user? Do they get lounge access?

Is it worth the 395 annual fee? Even the APR is pretty awful.

"
Interest Rates and Interest Charges
Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for Purchases and Transfers 21.99%, 25.99% or 28.99%, based on your creditworthiness.
This APR will vary with the market based on the Prime Rate."
its a credit card...of course the APR is awful. shouldnt roll balances over..

I have this card and really the travel portal sucks and the deals there aren't that great. So consider it as just a regular 100$ card with those benefits. not the worsye but I wished I can get more of a deal from the travel portal

Are you saying after the $300 coupon/credit? What about the 10k anniv. points? Wouldn't that virtually cancel out the fees?

Well I recently booked a hotel using these 300$ and the price was quite competitive. So it is worth it for anyone flying and traveling a lot. Whenever you use the card for travels they will be posted somewhere where you can still use your miles/dollars to pay them off later. This is regardless of from where you bought your travels. Also this is 1:1 conversion so you will not loose miles.

it's free to add authorized users ...while reserve is charging a fee
Each authorized users gets 3 more (1+2) free lounge access ...while with reserve you get only initial 2 and that's it.
This card has access to more lounges than reserve
Extra lounge access makes this card worth it in my book YMMV

That's a good deal for me. The last couple of times we've flown internationally we've had longer layovers so opted for lounge access with my AMEX Platinum, but since we are a family of four I had to pay for one entry since my wife is not an AU. I'll grab this card since we travel quite a bit.
