I've been running Moabs for years but I really don't care for this waterproof non Gore-tex model. They line them with some kind of waterproof membrane that makes a lot of noise. I just sent a pair back a few months ago because of this. If ya don't mind the scrunching noise, these are just as comfortable as other Moabs.
I have worn these for work for, shoot... seems like over a decade now. I'm on my fourth pair. They usually last me about 2-3 years of nearly daily wear M-F. I do real estate appraisal, and these are perfect for rain and mud. It RARELY snows where I am, so I haven't really field tested them in that sort of environment.

I need the waterproofing, so these are great. And for me, the best part has always been how comfortable they are right out of the box. It seems like I've never even had to break them in. When I get a new pair, I just put them on and they are super comfortable from minute 1.
when it comes to getting waterproof hiking shoes, mid to high like this is what you want. i bought a lower waterproof shoe and realized how stupid it was when water would come in over through my ankle when the water wasn't even that high

I've had these for two years. I was disappointed when the toe started to come off as that's not my usual experience with Merrell's otherwise excellent boots and shoes, but I just superglued 'em and all is good considering how rough I am on them. Mine have gone through some tough sledding in Minnesota rainstorms and snow, and I use them for not only hiking but as work wear. Light, comfortable, easy break-in, and generally tougher than anything else for this price, I'd say.

Are these good for digging with a shovel? Looking for a pair of boots that can withstand stomping on a shovel. Had a pair of magnum tactical boots but the sole was made of a soft material and not the best for digging. Any insight?

I live in snow country and I prefer Muck Boots that go high up the calf and have neoprene at the top as a gaitor to keep snow out.

You got no clue what you are talking about. These are not high volume or high margin items for someone to make knockoffs.

Your right, no clue. Merrell warns of counterfeit product from unauthorized sellers... Which this company is. Quick search of court records and they are being sued as we speak in New Jersey for counterfeit products. You do you. I deal with Chinese companies. They make your product and many back door knock offs that go to third world countries... Some find there way back to our shores.

I bought these exact models a couple weeks ago ($77 for size 10.5).

I bought them for a 5-day backpacking trip through Yellowstone.

Wore them all week without any break-in and they were great IMO. Really comfortable, no issues, and held up great. Didn't seem to have any problems with the rain we got and the resulting puddles I had to walk through.

I tried buying a pair of Propet slip-resistant shoes for work once. They were ridiculously narrow (even looked oddly skinny) and extra long. The leather quality was atrocious. The most bizarre shoes I've ever bought, and I've had a shoe problem for a long time. I'll never buy Propet again unless I happen to see them in a store or something first.

Merrells on the other hand, run perfectly true to size, in my experience. They make high quality shoes, and I wouldn't assume something from another brand is equivalent just because they look similar. I mean, a Nissan Sentra is a sedan, but that doesn't mean it's as good as a BMW M5 because they're both sedans. I gambled on a pair of "waterproof" Nortiv8 hikers from Amazon. Yes, that's a brand. They looked pretty nice but were uncomfortable, didn't breathe, leaked like a sieve when new, and the soles started to separate within 2 months. I've been a Merrell fan since I replaced those.

I had a pair of Moab 2s for work a few years back. When those wore out I gambled on the Nortiv 8s during prime day or something because they were so cheap. I honestly got pretty good mileage out of them and didn't hate them. My job is especially hard on my boots, but I opt for hiking style for comfort. All that said, the Merrell's are certainly better than their knockoffs.

Yes, I feel comfortable making a blanket statement that Merrell makes good, comfortable shoes and hikers. I forgot that the first pair of Nortiv8 boots I bought were unwearable because they ran at least a full size small, if not 1.5. The second pair weren't the worst shoes I've ever bought, and they were cheap, but not much cheaper than you can find Merrells for here if you're patient.

I passe don this deal but will probably grab another pair the next time I see some version of waterproof Moabs on sale. Last year's pair are still okay but I want to make sure I'm covered through the winter. I operate a small bread distribution company, so I know what you mean about being tough on boots. When I got into this, I noticed that a lot of guys in various delivery and distribution jobs wear Merrell. The Keens I wore before were fine too, but there's a reason folks in DSD wear Merrell. Keen seems to be the number two brand, and they have some great options if you need safety toes or slip resistance ratings, which I can do without.
