I think the model follows, so this is 3-4 yrs old model
R635 - 2020
R646 - 2021
R655 - 2022
QM8 - 2023

Which begs the question why is this almost 700 dollars?

This shouldnt even be sold new in stores anymore.

This set is from 2020. I've had the 55" version for 3 years now and it's been great. That said, lacking HDMI 2.1 is a bit frustrating as a gamer given the necessity of you want to do any of the 40Hz modes.

Any 75 inch or larger ROKU tv that TCL makes? I like the Roku OS over google.
Honestly, for the best experience, just buy any good TV and buy a standalone Roku. Eventually the Roku OS will start to get slower, and you can buy a new Roku device. I never recommend buying a TV for the OS.

I bought a budget TCL Roku TV years ago. Over time with software updates, the channel interfaces became slower and pokier. Netflix became almost unusable and would sometimes require whole system reboots. But then I plugged a Roku stick into the side of the thing, told the TV to switch to that input on startup, and performance has been great since.

Exactly. Heck, I'd rather have a "dumb TV" at a lower price point than a smart TV, both those days are gone.

This 120hz vs 60hz & miniLED which gets much brighter. It's a class above and beats it by a good margin in every category. This TV is in the same tier as the Vizio P-series and outcompetes that one as well.

tempting, but all my tv's are working.
Honestly, you aren't really missing anything here. It's not a bad TV but the buyer that throws almost $800 after tax at this 3 or 4 year old TV has more money than sense. You could do better with no additional funds just waiting for a decent sale and if you added a little bit funds and waited for a decent sale, you could do far better. This wouldve been a better TV to buy a couple years ago than it is now.

No it is not. It is a 2023 model. 120hz. HDMI 2.1.
Nope! R635 is 2020.

I have the 55" version of this TV which I got for $350 on OfferUp. I am always amazed at the picture quality of this TV. I would say it is 90% of my LG E8 OLED TV.

100% recommend this TV for the price. There is an app that lets you calibrate the colors if you have an iPhone. After calibration it is surprisingly almost perfect color recreation with natural dim/bright zones. Most TV's are a little heavy on red colors and after tuning this set it is the most color accurate display I've ever had.

If you are in the market do not pass this TV up, I freaking love it

Great TV but I still think this is ~$150 too expensive. If at $520 mark I'd be in Business. Let's see if they can move these at that price. If not I would expect some $50 off, or $100 off promotions

Is this equivalent to the R655 that bestbuy sells for $999?
Old tv...

Still good, but I wouldn't pay full price for 2020 TV in 2023.

I just replaced my 3 year old r635 with qm8.

Hmm

This Costco tv is not r635...

It's r636

Either Costco got some specs mixed up or r636 is a refresh of 3 year old r635 with better specs

As a current TCL owner, I would never buy another TCL, or any other Chinese or Taiwanese brands like HiSense, or Vizio ever again.

You keep your sanity with Samsung or LG and lasts longer too.

I would recommend providing more info. Is it a TCL 4 series or 6 series? The model number beginning with 6 is their best version. I have both and the 4 series is very lackluster.

This model is a 6 series, and image quality hangs with the sony's and Samsung in a price range way outside of $650.

TCL is also known to have the issue of "winning the panel lottery" which means your TV may come with a dead pixel or two, but if it arrives clean you are considered lucky to have a quality 6 series for $650 that performs as good as $1000+ competitor units or better.

TCL is very specific. 4 series is a pass, 6 series is worth the gamble if it works. I won the panel lottery and am extremely satisfied for $650
