I have this and the Bose TV Speaker (and crappy hearing), and both those soundbars improved my understandng of dialogue. (I never did an A-B test to see if one was better than the other.)

But whenever it was a week or 2 ago that Samsung on woot with the wireless subwoofer for $100. Damn I'm happy with that purchase! My mancave (big shed) is great now with it!! Movies thump!
Not your use case (enjoy and protect your good hearing), but Dialogue Mode is helpful for hard-of-hearing TV watchers. This is about as inexpensive as it gets for Bose Dialogue Mode.

I think I'd try an Apple TV with factory tv speakers before this. There is a setting called "reduce loud sounds" amplifying dialogue quite effectively. I hate VOX but this was a pretty good explanation of why we all need subtitles anymore. Audio engineers are seeming creating a preventable problem.
