so what's the consensus on the airs now? I've seen so many issues with the display cables being damaged from normal use which causes the display to stop working. and now that they've been out for a while, it's becoming more apparent since it is "time" that was needed to see this issue. does anyone know if apple did anything in the m2 airs to prevent this? ppl say that the airs will last 5-6 years... well not if the display ribbon cable isn't properly protected and fails due to damage from normal usage. i'm sure an apple consumer will just be like "pay for the apple care" but then it's like... ??? i'm buying a product that is defective and apple care is basically required now? it's crazy how many ppl say apple products are quality products but then they always say you better get apple care tho... if it was quality.. u wouldn't need apple care

Just commenting on this my M1 Air with a shot screen. I closed it at my desk and woke up with a large black bar through my screen. Quoted $600-$800 to fix it. I can either try a cheap $200 eBay panel repair with the risk of breaking it or just suck it up and buy an M2. Either way, was pretty upset to have one of the most essential parts of this machine give up on me after two years. Hoping to hear something else about display fixes otherwise I'm going to have to suck it up and spend extra on AppleCare

Debating if it's a worthwhile upgrade to go from my 2019 MacBook Pro 13 with intel. I know the m chips are supposed to be faster and cooler, but I'd hardly call myself a power user.

Just do bestbuy total membership, I think it is worth the $ if you buy the majority tech products from them.

Biggest difference for a non power user would probably be battery life, if that's not an issue for you then I would not bother

Question: if you have a bad experience with Apple's product and don't trust Apple's product. Why do you want to keep buying Apple?

Would also like to know if this issue has been fixed in the M2 version.

This isn't a known issue, a one off. You have a one year warranty by default with the product and can extended it after the purchase

No 8GB with 256GB. Too slow. That's why they are selling it. On October, new M3 chip is coming.

If you qualify for educational pricing, Apple sells the 13.6" M2 8/256GB MacBook Air for $999 with:
  • $150 gift card (promotion ends Oct 2nd)
  • Discount on AppleCare+ if purchased with the laptop
  • Easy trade-in for old laptop (we got almost $400 for my wife's 2020 Intel 8/256GB MacBook Air a week-and-a-half ago)
Was hesitant to buy a computer with only 8 GB RAM in 2023, but getting the base model meant we could pick it up immediately.

For general use (web/video/email/docs/simple spreadsheets), her M2 MBA crushes my Asus G14 (Ryzen 9, 40 GB RAM), though obviously the G14 wins when it comes to gaming and other CPU intensive tasks (or anything that needs a lot of memory).

Fast, fanless, cool, lightweight, vibrant screen (though only 60 Hz), no chassis flex, excellent keyboard, superb touchpad, and battery lasts forever. Sweet little machine.
